Riley. Just finished up the Blackhawk course and got my orders for Fort Riley. All I have heard is negative stuff about that place. Just wondering if anyone can shed some postive light on the place.
My roommate in Korea came from 1st ID and loved it. Said there was plenty to do outdoors such as mtn biking, hunting, and great skiing (with a few hours drive). I also recall him mentioning that it was a pro-military area. Always nice to have a good supportive community.
I can't speak for living or being assigned there, but I've made several simulator trips there as well as a two week TDY trip. Personally I rather liked it compared to Campbell or Bragg. There is a ton of history within that post and the civilian community in that region is certainly pro military. The airfield, when I was there, was nearly shut down and only contained a -60 Guard med unit. The hangers, which appeared new, were in terrible condition inside. I'm sure that has improved since the return of the 1st ID.
I'm sure you won't mind it as there are many worse places to be assigned coming out of Rucker.
