I'm a military wife and currently stationed in Korea. I found out I am pregnant a week and half ago and I would really like to have my mom and one of my sisters come, but it is a 16hr flight for them. I wanted to know if anyone has ever flown somewhere else to have their baby? I was thinking Hawaii or the west coast as it is a shorter flight for me and them.

It doesn't really work like that ... most legitimate doctors want you to have been their patient, so unless you plan on delivering in an ER, you'd need to move somewhere for the entire duration of your pregnancy. A lot of doctors won't even take you on as a patient after a certain # of weeks, let alone just to deliver you.

Add to that you can't travel after a certain point in your pregnancy. That would depend on your health during your pregnancy.

If you wish to have the baby somewhere other than Korea, the thing that makes the most sense would be to move in with your parents.

But, then you may run the risk of losing command sponsorship for Korea and may not be able to get back there.

I would do a lot of research and a lot of talking with my husband if I were you.

They will not let you fly after around 36 weeks maybe even sooner because it is a long flight to Hawaii. Plus you would have to pay for that out of your own pocket. you would then have to pay for accommodation in Hawaii which isn't cheap. Then there is no guarantee that you would get coverage in Hawaii at Tripler because you are overseas so now you are on SOS Tricare I think (or something similar) where as in Hawaii it is TriWest. So you would have to find a doctor who would take you that late. $150 a day x 30 days can you afford that? Plus afterwards you will have to wait for the baby's passport to come and birth certificate so that can take another 6 weeks.

And to be honest do you want to fly for 10 hours on a plane as you are 36 weeks along and then have to go through customs when you are wanting to pee every 5 minutes? Not me thanks. While it is great you are looking out for them and the long flight, they will have an easier time with it than you will.
