I know that there are rules against mentioning outside web sites on these boards, but if any of you have had success in finding reliable sitters on anywhere would you please email the site to me? I would like to have a date night with DH when he gets back from Iraq, but the nearest family is many states away.

We just recently started visiting a new church so I'm not familiar with any of the youth there. I was looking at a web site that you pay to become part of, but they do all the back ground checks and have multiple references for each person. I just didn't know if anyone else had had any luck with anything like that.
Do you want older teenagers/young adults or does it matter. The reason I ask is because I started babysitting at 11 and kept on doing it throughout school. Never had a problem at all with the kids I looked after including babies. But a lot of parents these days dont want teenagers looking after their kids at all (even though usually they did it themselves).
If you are open to anyone then check with the base Red Cross and find out if they recently had the babysitting certification class. You can get names from that. Check with Family Services as well maybe someone knows someone. also look for teenagers in your area. When we were in San Diego one of our neighbors looked after our kids all the time, she was a Jr, then Sr in high school
Brilliant Navywife! I never thought of the cert. class list. As far as age goes, I think it depends on the teen. I started sitting when I was 11 too, so I know some kids are capable of it. Thanks for the input friends!
When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand.
If you live near a post call the Child and Youth Services on post. They acutally have a training for babysitters, they cerfify them in CPR, first aid, etc.
Another possible thing to try is a baby sitting co-op. A friend was in one in Va Beach. Everyone had to babysit say 4 hours a month and you banked a point for each hour. Then you used those points to pay for your babysitting. You could babysit more than the 4 hours a month if you wanted of course. This was all adults obviously and it worked out well for all of them.
