I now have a favorite commercial, I think it was WalMart or someone else. You see these two kids and the song "Its the Most wonderful time of the year" is playing and then you see this joyful dad on a cart picking up their school things.

I love my children, but 11 weeks of Summer Vacation is ridiculous. Now they are going to spend so much time reviewing. That was one thing I loved in Hawaii, 6 weeks in summer, 1 week October, 3 weeks at Christmas and 2 week Spring Break. They spent far less time on review and more time on new subjects.

I love that commercial too! It's Staples or some other office store actually.

My little boy started over a week ago. summer breaks seem so short to me, they take random other school days off ("teacher training days" or something like that)...Then they get mad at me for pulling him out while my school is out and taking him to places like Mexico. Ah well.

The Hawaii schedule sounds awesome.

I know what happened to the days when we went to school and it went from Labor Day to Mid June/last week of June. there was no real holidays between New Year's and Spring Break. There was no teacher days either.

I go back even farther when we went from the day after Labor Day to the day before Memorial Day. The school year was truly only 9 months at that time.

I have two in tech school and will be so glad when tomorrow gets here. This is supposedly my last school year and then I get to downsize my house.

lol....they still do that up here in WA! Ours don't start until Sept 9th and they're in until mid-June. Course, now they have them random teacher days added in, every other Wednesday is a half day.

LOL I remember loving the first day of school for my kids and I loved that commercial too!

I used to tease the kids that I was going to take mimosas to the bus stop to drink and toss rose petals behind the bus as it pulled away the first morning! Big Grin

It's been strange the past few years not having a kid in school. Our baby is 21 now! That's okay though - I don't miss the teacher's conferences, the school supplies and all that stuff. Cool

I was really surprised that this year the school supplies didn't cost as much. But I know they will get more expensive next year when our ds goes to middle school sniff sniff Frown (my baby)
