Ya, never heard of male Marines having a bootcamp song... though we did get in trouble once for singing the "bear necessities" from the jungle book.

The guide came out yelling one day to toss everything from our footlockers besides the bare necessities, somehow the whole platoon began singing the song, shortly after we were having a group IT session.

I went through in '01 and we sung the Lady Leatherneck song. But the DI's didn't teach it to us until after the Crucible. My husband and his best friend graduated a year before I did and they would make me sing it to them. They would act like they thought it was stupid but you could tell they liked it. Our Plt leader at MCT, some 03 SSgt would have us sing it to him too.

Cpl3051, what company and platoon were you? I was in the middle of my tour when you were there.

I was in 4026 Oscar Co. I went 4June-31Aug. Best 13wks of my life! I've read some of your previous posts and you said that you went through DI school with SSgt Weeks. She was one of my DI's then she left when we were on the range to go be an SDI.

Oh, that's right. My bad. Yeah, I still know a lot that are down there now. Some that I toured with have gone back for a second tour.

Girl, I envy you. Sometimes I'd give anything to go back in. I miss it. Good luck and God speed.

Hope you get the last 12 pounds off. Have you increased your running yet?

I was stationed there for my last year on active duty(04-05). I worked at female clothing. I don't know how you girls can be DI's. You have to have love for it. Then to go back another round...that's CRAZY!

I have to lose nine pounds now. I've been doing more sprints because I don't have a lot of time to PT (work, two kids and a deployed husband). I've also been doing the crossfit workout since their short but super intense. I like them because they keep you moving. I get bored easily sometimes I swear I have adult ADD.

Well, good luck to you. Do you know where you want to go? Is your DH active duty Marines?

Hi,

I was in Boot June 1971. We sang California Dreamin' a lot while standing in line. The first time we sang the Marine Corps Hymn we got our butts chewed out because we were not Marines yet!!

We also sang a song to the tune Of Down by the Riverside. "Gonna lay down my civy clothes" Of course there was:

6A 6A 6A is the best Platoon
Like it Love it
me oh my oh yes we do
We're recruits of the Women Marines
May be on Earth but it's Heaven to me
6A 6A 6A is the best Platoon!!

I think this one was passed down to all the Platoons. The number was changed each time.

Does anyone remember the Harlem Goat song? I absolutely hated that one. Probably why I can't remember it. Something about eating blue shirts of the line.

There were a lot more. We couldn't talk for the first 4 weeks so we used to sing.

Even though it's been 37 years I still remember how high I got smoking that first cigarette & drinking a coke after 4 weeks of not having either. Now I don't do either of those anymore bad for my health.

I graduated Boot Camp in 1973 and we didn't have a Platoon song to my knowledge. But during the last four weeks when we became seniors we were allowed to sing in the Chow Hall line. We learned our songs from listening to the group before us. We sang "Lady Leathernecks", "We're United States Marine Girls" (to the tune of It's A Grand Ole Flag) and "Hey Look Us Over, Include our gear, right here in Boot Camp...". There probably others, but these were the ones I remember.

What Friggin Song began like this...

"Hey look me over, lend me an ear.
Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, cause we're the Seniors Here!

and so on.

You weren't allowed to sing it until you were in 3rd phase and Senior platoon on Deck.

Here was my favorite. We're United States Marine Girls, we're Marines so proud and true. We're real live nieces of our Uncle Sam, we're for the red, white and blue. WAVES and WACS we'll gladly cheer for, but the best we're bound to be. So Yankee Doodle hep up the Leathernecks are marching, marching for right and liberty. We're a grand ole corp, we're a high fighting corp and we're here to relieve fighting men and we'll ever see our country free, that's what we're here to defend. We're Marines all true and we're proud of it to, and we'll ever be on the scene so let's unite our usefulness Keep your eye on the Girl Marines.
