Are any of you ladies members of either the Woman Marines Association or the Marine Corps League?? I was looking into joining one of them since I'm no longer active duty and I miss hanging out with a bunch of Marines!
Here are some links to the Women Marines Association branch in my state. I've never actually joined the membership since our branch meets in Detroit, 3 hrs from our home. But I've been involved, through the WMA, Detroit branch, in supporting WMs serving in Iraq. (Care packages, writing letters of encouragment, etc)
I am a member of the MCL. I like hanging out with the guys. I don't know if I could handle being in a room filled with nothing but women Marines. I would start having bootcamp flashbacks.
I was leaning more towards the MCL, mainly because there are no chapters of the WMA, that I'm aware of, in Mississippi. Besides, who doesn't like hanging out with a bunch of males Marines??
Why not join them both. You can be a member at large of the WMA and I personally have seen the really good stuff they do for active duty Marines and Marine Corps Veterans.
I guess I could do that! I just didn't want to join the WMA if they didn't do anything where I live. But, I don't know much about what they do. I met a gentleman the other day who was in the MCL here and he was telling me about the stuff they do. I think I may join the MCL for now and keep checking the WMA's website to see if a chapter opens up. I guess I could always see if I could open up a chapter here!
Keep in mind that if you wanted to open a local WMA most MCL unit allow the ladies to use their facilities for their meetings. We do at the Chester County Detachment of the MCL.
