You also don't need to get it cut though. If it is shoulder length, such as mine which reaches to my lower back, you need to learn to put it up in a bun. They will show you how to do this in boot camp but it's a good idea to learn how to do this ahead of time. Usually, the sock bun is the style of choice. I simply twist and wrap. You can also utilize braids instead of twisting.

When the hair is put up in a bun no barrettes can be used and pony tail holders and bobby pins must not be visible.

I have very thin hair and unless i use ponytail holders made to wear during sports my hair always falls out Will they make me cut it because of this. Not that it would bother me a whole lot I just want to be a marine, I would still like to know however.

Hello Ladies!

I usually dont post here. I have a legit Question? If the Marine Corps made Women Marines have haircuts like Male Marines. Would you have joined the Corps?

I have always been curious about that. I'm a grunt and never served with WM's..

Dang Y'all go bed early....

I would..oh wait I already did join anyway…
I don’t think that it would matter what you look like. You are serving your country for goodness sakes! Isn’t that enough? But hey—my hair is already short, (pry around 2 inches long at the longest strand) and my mom cuts it usually and she always threatens that she will cut it even shorter than my brother’s! But the GI jane thing would be cool to try out…if I have to I would.

I would; but we don't write the regs; we just follow them.

That's past the bottom of lowest part of the collar. But, depending on what uniform you are wearing, length could vary.

I think I got you beat mine is only about 1/2 of an inch long, much easier to go on post at 0330 that way...

STOP TELLING PEOPLE TO CUT THEIR HAIR SHORT!!!! Yeah I realize they are going to do it whether or not we say anything, but seriously. Telling a female to cut her hair shorter than most male Marines have their hair is not good advice. Seriously, think about.

I bet that it is that way. Correction now. I just made my mom cut my hair the other day. Now it is about an inch long at the top and around 1/2 in on the sides.

One way that i can tell when my hair is getting to long is when I can wake up in the morning with my hair actually sticking up!! *g*

LOL

The whole thing is, ALL of the Female Marines that I have ever met that had their hair as short as MSGL&M's get ridiculed and talked about. It's not a good move. The Marine Corps is the last place where you want to be an outsider, especially if you are a female and have the possiblity of being the only female in where you work. Serioulsly, think about it. I know my room mate in the fleet was always getting devil dogged for her hair cut and then when she would turn around, people wouldn't apoligize they would just give her a weird look. I know this sounds like some highschool mentality. But really why make your self more of a target than you have to be? The drill instructors aren't going to think you're a better recruit because your hair is so short.

I got what you're saying; as I said in an earlier post, those shorter cuts are considered eccentric and I am highly surprised that their NCOICs/OICs are letting them get away with these extremely short cuts (unless they are dark green).

But, no one is TELLING anyone to get their hair cut short intentionally unless they can't keep the longer hair up neatly as ol' "poolee22" was talking about...our DI's made recruits cut their hair if they couldn't keep it neat.

Semper Fidelis there KillerYut!!

My hair is really-really long now...2 or so inches it'll touch my hips...Im thinking about getting it cut man-military-style just to get it out the way.

I apologize for using you as an example, that wasn't cool. I wasn't trying to put you out there. Again, I am truly sorry.

Besides, I thought I heard somewhere that there's an actual order out stating that a female cannot have her hair cut shorter than an inch all the way around... Dunno, just thought I heard something about it somewhere; personally, my hair is really long and I like it that way; something about the whole sensation of 'letting your hair down' after work... lol.
