Was in
13-B 1976 Christmas time

I was the 2nd WM to be in the MOS of1341 and it was a *****, being hated every day. But I proved women can be mechanics and better also smarter,(but had to dummy up because of being wrote up every day) Thank god I knew my reg then. It was very hard NOT to swear all day long,(you know a woman first then a Marine). I was the first to fire the M-16 in Camp P in California. The other few Wm's could not believe I got to wear a badge so they started using my name to try and qualify. I was let out before I could try out the 45.

I have wild memories of doing bad things in boot camp getting yelled at, making people laugh, never doing anything hehe

Hey "Old School"! I am actually one year older (9B 1975) but won't that get in the way! You're only as "OLD" as you feel! Smile You must of been at Pendleton the same time I was. I lived in the 13 area barracks right near the motor pool... I knew quite a few of the WMs that worked and taught out of there. Seems they were placing all the WMs out of boot camp into either motor pool or admin.. I lucked out. I never got to fire the M-16 but I got to fire the 45. I was Corporal of the Guard.. it was more to "familiarize" with the weapon.. we didn't get to qualify. I did get the chance to fire a really cool M1... there was an old salt gunny on the range and he had all these old weapons... What a riot.. Knocked me off my feet. Nice to see someone my age around here. Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome been here only a few times just found the womans area hehe
I got to move to live only in the 22 area because the men kept me up what few hours I tried to sleep pounding on my door trying to get in Roll Eyes Since I was the only WM around during that time with a car they let me because I could drive to Las Polgus every day. Long drive that is for sure.

At Pendleton, I was stationed mainside at the AVSC (Audio Visual Support Center) or sometimes called TSC Training Support Center. We had a satellite out at San Onofre (sp?) I was NCOIC of the Graphic Art Department that supported the Schools out there. Great duty.. lunch time was spent pt-ing on the beach! Ever been to "Google earth?" You can see the base and sort of figure out where everything was... fun!

Plt 4035 Papa CO they graduated-November 10, 2005 (Marine Corps B-day)

Two weeks before graduation my leg was put in a cast and I passed everything but they hid me from the outside world. Since I was second squad leader up front marching being tall and I was good. I was put in the back of my platoon picture because I was in a cast and on crutches. Then I did not get to graduate with my platoon of Valentines day because they forgot about me in poo poo group they stuck me with the bed wetter, Prego's etc. I passed everything and the Col. could not figure out why I did not graduate. Long story
Any hoot I missed out on my picture taking, all the pictures for the year book etc and I was mad as a hornet!! Mad
But graduated all alone.

Hey, great to hear from you all. I graduated Jan 1986 Platoon 2B
Ssgt Rogers
Corporal Nelson
Sgt. Good
Sgt. Coontz
Ooh-rah. They were so awesome.
Any Marines (female) have any bootcamp stories that are funny or touching, I am just finishing a fictional novel about any girl like us who up and joined the Marine Corps one day. Big publishing agent are already interested. I would really enjoy reflecting some of your real stories that recall your PI experience. If you email me I am happy to provide you with more detail.

Big Grin I must be one of the "old timers" from the OLD Corps here! Boot Camp was a "breeze", I was 21 and had been on my own. I was a hotel restaurant manager at the time and a recruiter used to come in for "Happy Hour"! He and I talked for MONTHS about women in the corps-should they be or shouldn't they be. He really didn't want me to join, but I talked him into it. I signed my papers on New Year's Eve, Dec 31, '74 and went into Plt 2B on Feb 10, 1975 and graduated on Apr 10, 1975. My DI's were: SSgt Lem, Sgt Burns, and Cpl Frankenburger. I served for 3 years @ Camp Lejeune MCB Hqtrs Building and also at HqBn, MCB, Camp Lejeune, NC. I loved every minute of it. BUT that was when women were women and men were men. AND there were no sexual harrassment laws. You had to learn how to fight/work your way to the top-NOT sleep your way to the top. I made E-5 in 23 months meritoriously.

My son is a Marine and my daughter is currently a Naval Officer, LtJG. I am so proud of their acconplishments!
