SSgt Barrett is one of my friends, was she mean at the island? She and I are stationed MCAS New River, now. She can chew when necessary, and I would hate to be on the receiving end, but she is a ray of sunshine otherwise. Is it hard to imagine your DI as a ray of sunshine?

Is it true that Woman Marine is considered an antiquated phrase like WAC, and no longer used? If so, I think that's great. I read about it on Ask.com. ASK.com said women are now fully integrated in the Corps - has this been your experience? Also, would someone fill me in on present PFT standards? I hear you're tested on a 3 mile run now. Do you have to do pull ups and the same number of situps?

Capt. Row
SDI Sgt. Hauber

Oh yeah, I'd do it all over again!!! Might do that yet, just might have to be a different branch now that I'm "too old" to enlist in the USMC, ok, too old for the Air Force and Navy too.

From the Women Marine Association website:

Today --Women serve in 93 percent of all occupational fields and 62 percent of all billets. Women constitute 6.2 percent of the Corps end strength and are an integral part of the Marine Corps.

To date servicewomen are still restricted from serving in the following positions:

Marine Corps: Infantry regiments and below, artillery battalions and below, all armored units, combat engineer battalions, reconnaissance units, riverine assault craft units, low altitude air defense units, and fleet anti-terrorism security teams.

Other than that, yes the term "WM" is no longer officially used by the Marine Corps, but it is still used by many...none the less.

Before that I was with another platoon. I believe it was 4023 O Company. Recycled because of rifle range.

My DI's were:
SDI SSgt L. Hargrett
DI Sgt L.A. Christoff
DI Sgt A.Y. Cheatham
(we had another DI but she flipped her nut half way through and was releived of our Platoon)
And I'll never forget the meanest miniature Mexican woman I ever met - DI Sgt Vargas who I only had for a short time while I was in receiving. She may have been small in stature but even the ground trembled when she told it to!

I think Sgt Vargas ended as the senior DI (I think) in my sister platoon: 4042. You hit the nail right on the head with that description!

Recruit Kerley sounding off!

PLT 4043, O Company, Graduated March 17, 1995

SSgt Baughman (Senior)
Sgt Perkins (Heavy) <----she was my version of Sgt Vargas - tiny little blond chick - tenacity and visciousness of a pitbull (gulp!)

Wow!! I know almost all of these DI's b/c I either worked with some or they were my DI's!!! I graduated Boot camp in 1995 November Co. Plt. 4048. My DI's:
SDI GySgt Anderson
DI Sgt Richardson (the heavy)
DI Sgt Miller-Lane
DI GySgt Krysten

I was a DI from 1999 to 2002.
Bamabelle99, you were the first platoon I graduated as a DI. Well, first series. I was a DI for your sister platoon 4001. I came in halfway through the cycle b/c of graduating from DI school. I always remember Jan. 7, 2000 as the day I graduated my first platoon of Marines.

Wow, it really is a small Marine Corps! Domini - that it cool! I came to that platoon about 2 weeks for the Crucible after 2 months in MRP. I cannot remember any of the DI's name hardly. I don't even remember my SDI. I know the sister platoon was SSgt Anderson.

I was stationed there from 2000 until 2002. I worked at the RTR S-1.

Okay useless info now. Sorry!

Wow. 10952255, I worked with all of these wonderful women at one time or another while I was a hat at PI. What memories!

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, National Guard or Reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand that - Author unknown.
