Yellow Footprints Boot camp database announcement!
With our two year anniversary right around the corner (August 12th 2006), we’ve decided to make a major change to our boot camp database in honor of our commitment to this mission of gathering historical information about you Marines. Starting today, May 25th we’ve opened the boot camp database in limited format to our members. After numerous requests by members and non-members alike, we’ve decided to give limited access to the database. Members now have the ability to create their own personal photo albums where they can, store historical pictures and information from their time in the Corps. This new section can now be used to store a Marine’s personal information from scanned discharge papers, DD214, and any other personal information they choose. Each album can be set for public viewing, private, as well as password protection if desired. Although the creation of platoon sections is still handled by administrators, personal information can now be transferred from this new photo album section to the boot camp database with more ease. As an example, boot camp graduation books can be scanned and uploaded to this new section by you our members, once data is uploaded an administrator can then copy the boot camp information into your boot camp platoon section, while leaving other non boot camp information alone. Members can now select a picture to be used in their boot camp platoon section where we overlay their email address, this allows for ease of contact. When a platoon member finds his/her platoon listed in the database, they will also find a listing of those platoon members who have left their email addresses. These two databases (personal photo album and boot camp database) work hand in hand. Performing a search using a Marines full name will pull up their personal photo album if set for public viewing, whereas a search for a platoon number pulls up that platoon numbers section with any posted information about that platoon. For those that need assistance due to the lack of knowledge on how to scan images, or how to upload data we still offer email and phone support when needed. This new feature is as easy as following the registration instructions, selecting those pictures and or data from your local hard drive, and uploading them to the web site…… It’s that easy. We hope you find this new feature helpful in storing your historical information for years to come. The Yellow Footprints team www.yellowfootprints.com |
