Hey, just wondering I just joined the navy to go in as a corpsman and they gave me fmf corpsman in my contract because I was in good shape and did well under pressure in the field. I know there aren't many females that make it through fmf and actually get assigned to an actual unit or platoon. Just wondering if you knew any females in this position and what they get to do on a daily basis as far ad duties. I would hate to be one of those girls who has to sit behind a desk all day! Thanks again for all your help. Can't wait to join you girls in the field. Way to make us look stong!

When I was in I never heard of such a thing as female corpsman. I can tell you this. You won't be assigned to a combat unit. No Infantry, Tanks, Arty, Combat Eng. Ect...Ect...

Um,I only have a minute but feel free to shoot me an email if you like.....I've heard a lot of different experiences from many females....but you also need to keep in mind some ppl talk a lot of bs too, so keep those filters on...lol I think it makes a difference,in some aspects, whether you're AD or reserves too.
I can only speak for myself, and have only been in 2 years now but I am with a combat battalion and actually serve with a CSE/TMT team.I'm told its very unusual and difficult to do,esp as a reservist and female, but they came to me. I'm an fmf corpsman (reserves) first but also trained as the driver,vc and gunner, which is in the best interest of our team,in the event someone gets shot or blown up and needs to be replaced on the spot. That spec ops training is not required technically, I volunteered for that. But I'm pretty sure that if I chose not to do it, they might also choose to keep me tucked away, safe inside my armored vehicle, and not utilize me outside of medical assistance.Or advise me that I could be replaced if someone else better qualified was found.
And I believe everyone coming in now (AD) that wants to be an HM is required to do and complete (someone correct me if I'm wrong please) fmf or they will be sep'd out,no matter where you get assigned. So even if you work in a hospital or something, they can still pull you for another assignment/deployment as an fmf hm. The needs of the navy/marine corps...the rules seem to change daily so you just have to keep on it and asking questions.....too many hms don't want to get deployed and guess what - they are needed in combat. Roll Eyes
If you are fortunate enough to serve with marines or navy seabees, you DO have to prove yourself b/c they tend to hate everyone but their beloved corpsman. But if you suck and have a bad attitude, they will hate you and you will be replaced.

While I was in the Marine Corps one of my greatest friends was a FMF Corpsman, she was the only female in her Battalion Aid Station, she kicked AZZ, you will definately do your time sitting behind a desk doing medical records (but even the males have to do that, I know this because my husband is FMF Corpsman). But besides being behind a desk she also did plenty of out in the field with the Marines things. Its what she liked the most.

One thing I will tell you is that even though you are an FMF Corpsman the Navy will require you to also work in the clinic. Basically it will go something like green side one duty station and blue side for the next duty station and so forth throughout your career. My husband loves being with the Marines and hates being in the Navy clinic and those sailors can't handle my husband for his motivation and so forth whenever he gets off of a green side.

All in all my husband loves his job and he loves being with his Marines and he wouldn't trade it for the world, of course unless he can become a Marine Sniper, which of course they don't allow Navy to do!

I say that you are going to love it and go for it!!!!!!!!!

Your not kidding, I can't believe how out of shape I am in. I don't even think I felt this way when I first got to boot camp. I feel like I'm 98 yrs old instead of 28. Oh well the end results will make me feel like I'm 18 Wink

I've been wanting to do something physical, but haven't decided what. I have a $1300 treadmill just waiting to be used, but I like being outside. I feel like such a troll.

I had a treadmill in Georgia and used it a couple of times, but not that much. What's really helping me now is I have a friend that wants to run. Without her, I'd probably just run once a month, at best!!

I wish some of my neighbors would run but all they want to do is walk and that bores me!! So right now my husband gets up at 0500 and runs then I go to the gym after work and do my thing. I would love to run with him in the mornings but of course someone has to be home with Colten (my son), and I NOT waking him up just to go run. All I know is that I need to lose a few pounds.

My sis-in-law has one of those jogging strollers. I'm not sure how old your son is. My girls stay with my mom while me and my friend go running. I enjoy getting out there again! I figured I'd enjoy running once I wasn't being forced to do it anymore. Razz
