Basic Training |
So i'm 17, i graduate in june. My boyfriend is currently in MCT right now, and ive wanted to join for a long time, and im still debating if i want to or not.
If i do go in, then i will be leaving in june and doing the buddy program with my friend. i dont know what job i would want to do.. if me and my boyfriend were to get married, it seems like things would be alot more difficult, if i were to join also. Anyways.. Any advice or comments would be great!! |

Sgt Shaw is a good one for this, I believe she is mariied to another Marine.
From most married Marine couples I saw, it was a pretty good thing. AT the very least they always had something in common to talk about. |

If you get married ahead of your joining, you stand a better chance of being stationed together. It is not guarenteed, though HQMC does try to keep you together. That is the short answer. If you need more send me an email through my profile.

To continue since I was short of time at the end of the day yesterday...
My husband and I met within the first year our contracts. We were both stationed at Camp Lejeune. I with MCB and he with 2nd MarDiv. We were eventually married in the 3rd year of our contracts. Just prior to being married he deployed to Camp Fuji Japan for 5 months. 4 days later I received orders to Hawaii unaccompanied (3 years) due to leave Dec 31 of 1988. When his deployment was over, within a week were married by JP. Then I set the wheels in motion to change my orders to accompanied, still wanting to go to Hawaii. HQMC could not send my hubby because he was a tanker and the MC doesn't have any tanks on Hawaii, the army does. We even looked into him trasferring to the Army so we could still go. HQMC said no. Then, the only option we had was to request to cancel my orders. The cancellation was applied for in October 88 and we received the cancellation two weeks prior to my expected ship date. Later, in our 4th year of a 6 year contract we were sent to 29 Palms CA and ended our contracts there. Several long deployments and short field ops during our time together and we survive to this day. It can be done. You just both have to be committed to it. Going from boyfriend/girlfriend to marriage is a BIG step. My best advise to you is to get some pre-marriage counseling prior to getting married. Perferably by the base Chaplian where he is stationed. They know the right questions to ask that a civilian pre-marriage counselor wouldn't. Being Active Duty Military spouses is a tough go, but you can do it if you have the right stuff. |
