I don't normally venture in here, but I needed you ladies help.
I have a female Marine that needs to shave her face. she has unsightly facial hair that would be WELL out of regs for a male. before I go chew her ***, what are the regs for females? Do I have any right to chew her *** for having facial hair? an active duty Marine who knows the answer, I'd love a response. Thanks Marines. |

Well, since you are active duty and you don't know the answer, I am sure you can look it up in the regs or check further up your chain of command. This is not the place to look.
IF what you say is true. P.S. - If you are attempting to bait or stir, this is NOT where you want to be. |

Lar! It seems you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. Telling a woman she has to shave something other than her legs, can be a bit tricky. Take out a credit card and scrape your face in an upward direction, then challenge her to do the same. Hear which one makes more noise. Then tell her, to get her bucket, put it on her head, side straddle hop and dry shave. It will only be a one time exercise. She'll get the message.
Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way! |

Shaw it's common knowledge I can't stand you. But i didn't post here cause I want you to like me.
I posted here cause I wanted an answer, and perhaps how others have addressed it in the past. I'm not trying to stir up trouble. If anyone has an answer I'd gladly hear it. Marine Corps regs are thick, obtuse, and often confusing. I'd far prefer to just hear someone say "it's THIS way". |

That is unfortunate LAREthan, I really don't have a problem with you.
Like I said before and since it is such a unique situation, excuse me for thinking it might just be hooey. Anyway, being such a unique situation there may not be regs on it at all. You may want to: 1. - Have a WM speak to her about it and/or/after 2. - Consulting higher authority about how to approach the subject. You could find yourself in deep doo doo if she takes offense. You may just have to live with it. |

Thank you Shaw. That's a reasonable solution I should've thought of myself. I'll have a LCPL or PFC senior to her talk to her about it.
Appreciate the input. |

IMHO - If she has facial hair, she is already aware of it {how the DI's didn't handle this in "Boot" is beyond me; she should've already have been "educated" on this matter then I believe a guy would be more uncomfortable about talking about it to her as LAREthan has stated here in the original post. However you decide to handle the situation LAREthan, at least in my opinion {And being of Mediterranean decent Good luck with the situation. LAR, there is no reason to "chew ***" at all because females don't have facial hair regs. But if it's out of control, don't make her shave with a razor. The hair WILL come back black and get rough, just like a male's face.
Tell her to wax it. It's not hard, I wax my eyebrows, and upperlip (rarely). She can go to any salon to have a complete facial wax and be fine. But, please, God, don't tell her to shave with a razor like a man. The regrowth will be worse. I have an aunt who is living proof of this. With waxing, the hair comes back smoother and smoother and smoother everytime. Eventually it starts thinning out and you have to wax less and less. There may be no reg for WM facial hair, but she can't go around looking like that, that's for sure. I've never seen a Woman Marine with facial hair. How bad is it, in comparison to a man. If she has dark hair, and as WM's have said, be of Italian , Greek, or Armanian descent, she might have it. Tell another Woman Marine to tell her to have it waxed. Just my opinion. Sempers, LadyM59. I don't care if you like me either.

I don't have an attitude problem, you have a perception problem! |
Awesome post fmr8511... Also, please tell her not to "pluck" anything becuase that makes it worse for the hair follicle and will cause unsightly ingrown hairs. LAREthan, as bad as you think it is for you --- it is worse for her. I know women that have had issues with this (usually related to hormones) and it is not a pleasant experience for ANY of them. Chewing her butt would only add to her embarassment. Again, this is probably due to a hormonal imbalance and not something she did to deserve to be chewed out. I would get another woman to speak with her privately -- that is, a woman that is MATURE enough not to humiliate this young Marine -- and help her with some options on taking care of this. As a last resort, an expensive one, in addition to those mentioned above in previous posts is electrolysis. I have had some electro work done and it was worth every penny. Advise her to do plenty of research on all the options above to determine which works best for her AFTER she heads to a Dr. to determine whether the hair growth is caused by a hormonal imabalance. If that is the case, then they will provide recommendations to suit her needs. JMHO GL |

Great point, GL
I didn't think about that hormonal imbalance, but you are right, that probably has a lot to do with it. |

Corruptible!!! |
This female probably does have a hormone imbalance...but, you all know she won't get evaluated for it while on AD.
Like the others have mentioned...find out someone she is chummy with and have them handle the situation delicately. She may really just not know....ya know, the Marine Corps doesn't have the best lighting in the heads. Whether it's cattle style heads or semi-private. Baaahahhhhh. You know I'm not lying 'bout that. |

I hate to say it, which is why I will type it instead... have her check out this thread. I am sure she will get the hint. |

Is it real fine baby hair that is growing down from the sideburns or is it real thick coarse fly hair (whiskers) on the chin. I am not making a joke. My wife is sicilian and has to get rid of that baby hair, sometimes

If there is no regulation for facial hair on females, I say leave it alone. Who cares, as long as she is performing her duties well? Is she a good Marine? Does it impede her performance? Is there a safety issue? If not, leave it be. If it is a hormonal thing, and /or a medical condition, you really don't want to go there. Unless she looks like JoJo the dog-boy, it can't be that huge of a problem. If there is no reg for it, you should leave it be.

Way back when, facial hair was allowable on occasion. If she's a Corporal she could have a mustache as long as it is trimmed above her lip and doesn't curl on the ends

My husband said that Marines usually have a clean cut look. So i guess if it doesnt look to clean... waxing would be her best bet. Unless its for religions purposes. Could that be it?
