Hi, I'm currently a 2E251 and I might have the opportunity to cross-train into one of these two intel positions. I'm curious to hear from anyone who is/was in these AFSC's. From what I gather, 1N4 seems to be more like my current AFSC. I really like being a 2E2, but I'm also very interested the things I read about 1N2's. I would really like some input from people in these AFSC's, before I make any decisions. Thanks.
Not to throw a wet blanket over the gathering, but this forum is populated mostly by old school comm types and the occasional renegade computer toad. There might have been an Intel guy stumbled through at one time or another, but if he did, he didn't leave any tracks.
You might have a better chance of getting a reply to this specific question in the AF General Discussion Forum.

Alright, thanks sir. It's been quite some time since I've posted on these forums.
Well, I suppose I'll leave some tracks. 1N2 and 1N4 are soon to be one in the same. That fact aside, 1N4 is quite possibly one of the greatest jobs in the AF. Of course I'm biased it covers a staggering amount of different skill sets, so you can do a great number of different things within the career field.
I know this is old, and the OP has probably gone and done his or her thing already... but just got to point out.
1N4 and 1N2 are NOT merging...
1N2 and 1N5 ARE merging 1N0 and 1N4 might be merging
Essentially, 1N2 and 1N5 deal with analyzing certain types of signals. This is a technical thing - spectrum analyzers, beeps and squeaks, waves, antennae, etc.
1N4 has to do with analyzing information and reporting it. It can include strong written communication skills, and certain types of logical thinking and problem solving skills.
1N0 does lots of other stuff. Some considered important, some not so much.

Does this mean that the tech school for 1n4 will be longer combining both AFSCs curriculum into one course? Also would 1n4's be stationed at more bases because of the merging? I have been told that as a new 1n4 I should expect Ft. Meade.
If you go to about.com and search for the AFSC you want to learn about it will bring a detailed list of those career fields. I'm a 1N5 and I'm silently (was) trolling these forums =)

I don't know much about any specific tech school plans. The Air Force is realigning several AFSCs, they have a goal to reduce the number of AFSCs by a third, I think. I'm probably off. The general concept is that the tech schools cirriculum will focus on a few key tasks, but also provide a general overview of the whole AFSC. Then, prior to each assignment the member will attend a training course to learn the specific tasks required for that slot.
