Any of you ever been to the World War II Weekend held in Reading, PA? It is held at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum at Reading Regional Airport. It is supposed to be quite a show. It includes ground pounder equipment as well as vintage aircraft of the era. Here's their Internet address: WWII Weekend
I'm seriously considering attending this year. I've never been. It is held on on June 6, 7, and 8. I made hotel reservations today at the local Comfort Inn in Reading. Sounds like a perfect excuse for a road trip.
Last weekend I went on a road trip to Reading, PA Regional Airport to attend an exhibition called "World War II Weekend." An event meant to celebrate the comradeship and unity of the participants of that time in history, not celebrate the war.
It was a cool time. They had restored vehicles and aircraft from that era, enactors dressed in authentic military garb who ranged from the 82nd Airborne and various US Army units, to US Marines, to German, British, and Australian troops. It was quite a show. Hard to believe that there are so many restored WWII jeeps and half-tracks still out there.
There were lots of WWII vets in evidence, including some of the Paratroopers that the HBO series "Band of Brothers" was based on. A very cool event, complete with the recreation of 1940's era music and radio shows.
My pics are at http://www.flickr.com/photos/13884800@N05/sets/72157605540479378/ . I had some camera problems which more or less eventually resolved themselves, but it's time for me to get a new camera (note some of the pinkish hue of the sky and other reflective surfaces in the pics - I don't what that is all about).
I had found the ww2 weekend site last week then lost it. Couldn't find it again!!! Then I decided to browse through Military.com and saw your post. And there it was. My father was in WW2 and I have been trying to find out things about him so I plan on going (hopefuly) next year.
