I have questions about this battle or possibly battles. Does anyone have any first hand knowlede of what went on here? I have always believed my life has been peaceful and prosperous chiefly due to the wartime sacrifices of the greatest generation and I thank you for it. Sadly my Dad passed before I had sense enough to realize why he was so proud of his service. Well--we all know now. Hope it is not too little too late.

There are numerous good books about the Battle of Saipan. I suggest you check out your local library or book stores -- you'll find a wealth of information. Good luck!

There was a movie titled "Hell on Saipan" depicting the story of John Gabaldon, a marine who was raised by a Japanese family in Los Angeles, who spoke the language and sent to Saipan to fight the Japanese. He was played by Jeffrey Hunter, and this guy was instrumental in saving countless lives of Japanese civilians who were caught in the bloody conflict. He chose to remain in Saipan after the war to spend his remaining years there.
