i heard through a friend that in ww2 every letter wrote was sent to the war department to get sensered and they made a copy i am just wondering becouse my great grandpa letters have been lost over the years it might be a long shot but every body on this site are so helpfull just need a little info thanks and god bless

Your friend is wrong.

Letters written by Soldiers were censored of any possible sensitive information. But normally at no higher than Company level. They were not copied.

I think your friend is confusing V-mail with copying of letters. To save weight, letters were written on special V-mail forms which were then photographed and shrank to microfilm size. When they got to the States, the letters were reproduced full size.
