I'm trying to find any information about John Evans, my great uncle, who was killed in Saipan on June 18th, 1944. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the Marine 4th. Also, I have a letter that was written by Frank Acosto, staff sargeant in teh 4th, to John's mom describing what happened. I have no idea if Frank is alive. If anyone has any information about Uncle John or Frank, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I also have questions about Saipan. I half- remember the stories but my Dad wanted me to know that his brother James J. Gallagher known as Skeets or Buddy was possibly wounded and decorated because of actions on Saipan. I think he was a LT in the Marine Corps. Does anyone have any first hand info of what happened in general or possibly any knowlege of my uncle specifically? Kind of crazy to ask considering the man power involved in these operations but we have the need to know from the greatest generation. Too bad one was too young and goofy to ask when they were here to tell us. Chances are in those days they would't have discussed it anyway. We do need to know as much as we can so no one will ever forget.
