Hello, I'm looking for information on a trip I'm trying to pull together. I am retired military and would like to travel to Oxford, England to see my daughter's matriculation into her graduate studies at Oxford University on October 13th. I live in San Antonio, Texas and would try to depart from Randolf, AFB. The last time I took a Space-A hop was in the 1970s, so ANY advice would be greatly appreciated.

Start with the Space-A FAQ at http://spacea.net

Chances are you'll have to get something to one of the larger east coast bases (McGuire, Dover, Charleston or perhaps Andrews) for a flight to Germany. From Germany you can try for a Space-A flight to Mildenhall or go commercial from Frankfurt-Hahn to Stansted or from Frankfurt to London.

Alternatively, checkout Kelly Field or Jackson MS for possible flights to Germany.

I've been doing a lot of space a research and your best bet is to fly out of BWI (Baltimore/Washington International. The also have an USO lounge for your convenience with free international calling. Out of BWI it is a chartered commercial airline and supposedly very nice. The only thing is that I believe it only goes to Germany. But like the other gentleman said you can go commercial or perhaps a space a from Germany.

Hope this helps.

You might do better to fly to Luton or Birmingham from Frankfurt rather than Stanstead or Heathrow as they both are more convenient from Oxford, particularly if you want to use public transport (and you will because driving in Oxford is a pain and there's nowhere to park). Birmingham International is about an hour from Oxford by train.
