I would like to see my husband for spring break. He is stationed in Japan on unaccompanied assignment for two years. I know I can travel under Cat V. and I need the command sponsored letter. I figured I needed to: 1: Fly out of OK through Altus AFB, Tinker AFB, or Will Rogers World Airport/Air National Guard. 2: Travel to Travis AFB or Coronado Naval Base. 3: Travel From There to Kadena AFB in Japan. Can anyone give me any advice? This is the first time I have ever done this and what I have learned is from research on the internet and the Space-A Travel Guide. What does it mean when the mission ends or not being about to travel from Travis once I get there?

You can only get on a flight that is going all the way overseas. You cannot go from Tinker, Altus or Will Rodgers unless that flight is going to Hickam or Japan or Alaska. If it is just going to Travis you can't be on it at all. You are Cat 5 so you are only authorized OCONUS flights not a CONUS to CONUS flight. Coronado is on North Island and isn't a base that flights leave from, you are thinking NAS North Island itself. There can be flights from there but not always to Hawaii or other overseas locations. Occasionally they will have a flight that goes all the way to Kadena but not often. NAS Ft Worth is another option for you. You can view their schedules online if you yahoo search it and type it right. Now you can be bumped at anytime so you do have to budget for time, lodging, food and commercial flights because you are stuck. Sometimes it is actually cheaper to get on a commercial flight than it is to attempt to Space A. Especially in certain times of year like late March/early April when school is out or in the summer.

Oh, I thought since my husband was stationed for over 120 days it allowed for the conus to conus travel.

No that is only if he is deployed for 120 days or longer are you allowed to fly CONUS to CONUS locations and upgraded to Cat 4. He is stationed overseas therefore you are limited to CONUS to OCONUS or OCONUS to CONUS and Cat 5. You can go to here to see the Dependent Eligibility information.
