These things you should remember:
1) Always have an open schedule you never know when you could be delayed due to schedule change, airplane problems, etc...Alo have a backup plan where you can fly to another place or drive or fly commerically. 2) Dependents stationed OCONUS can fly on Space A to and from the CONUS BUT you can not travel in CONUS unless the flight you are on final destination is overseas and you are on it all way or you got on it overseas and are booked all the way. 3) If you are a dependent living OCONUS and flying w/o your sponsor to or from OCONUS and that sponsor is deployed for more than 120 days, during the deployment you can get upgrade 1 time from Category 5 to Category 4. You will need a letter for that. 4) If your spouse is stationed OCONUS unaccompanied you are eligble for flying Space A to that location as well. You will need a non-command sponsored letter. There are limits to certain locations overseas on how many times you can fly per year, so make sure you check on regulations 5) Travelling with children, they will get their own seats. Car seats aren't required but recommended. Make sure you have books, snacks, DVD's, batteries, etc.. with you on the plane. You could be flying from a few hours to a long period of time on anytype of plane. 6) Be prepared for any type of plane from one that is like a commerical jet to one where you are in a seat but backwards or one where you are in mesh seats. Dress in layers so that you are prepared for any conditions. 7) Reservists flying Space A does have restrictions. Those with DD Form 2 ID and DD Form 1853 may go to all 50 US States and the Territories (Virgin Islands, PR, Guam, & American Samoa). If you are on Active Duty then you do not have restrictions. Dependents of Reservists are restrictions if they aren't on AD. If the Reservists is on AD for longer than 30 days you can fly as long as you are with your sponsor. Navywife,
Re your #3 above, the upgrade is applicable to sponsor deployments of "120 days or more" and not "more than 180 days." In addition, the upgrade is only for those stationed OCONUS and it does not apply to reservists/guard. |

There is new regulations for Spouses flying CONUS to CONUS or CONUS to OCONUS.
If the AD member is deployed for 120 days, they are now allowing Dependents to fly from a CONUS to CONUS location as well as from a CONUS to OCONUS location. To visit with family & friends during deployment. You must have a command letter in order to use this and there are other information. Check out John D's Space A for the most up to date information. |
