Hi. We live in the US, but are getting PCS'd to Germany in June. I am the spouse of an Army O4. We have a very large payment we make every month on my student loans, and my question is: does anyone know if we can suspend payments or reduce interest while we are over seas? 50% of my student loans are private, so they are at a higher rate than the other Federal Student Loans...any advice would be appreciated.

no. there are no provisions to suspend or delay payment just because he has OCONUS orders.

the loans are in YOUR name therefore YOU are responsible for them. Unless you yourself will lose considerable income due to being unable to work in Germany, you will be unable to request a temporary reduction or suspension of payments.

Don't forget that you continue to accrue interest even if you aren't paying so in the long run you could end up paying more by suspending payments.

Thank you for your response.

Just to be clear, the private loans are NOT just MINE, they belong to us JOINTLY...

And yes, I may lose considerable income going to Germany.

I will have to see what happens.
Thank you.
