I'm currently active duty, and had a preexisting mortgage and home equity loan before joining. I recently got pcs orders to my duty station which is four hours away. So I can't live in my home anymore. In addition I've had my home for sale for a year and a half, no luck. We have also had no luck renting the home. These problems are due mostly to Michigan's failing economy. I won't be able to afford paying for my home, and a home near my workplace. But my question is how can the Act help me so that I can keep my house, good credit, and bring my family to live near my duty station so we can live together? I think the law can offer me some protection because of financial hardship due to PCS orders, but I can't find more info. Any understanding of this Act is appreiciated.
you won't be able to suspend payment of the mortgage. at most, you can get the interest rate reduced to 6% if it isn't already there.
the financial Hardship aspect really only applies to Reservists and Guard called away from their six figure incomes to live on AD pay, which is most definitely NOT six figures.
The fact is, plenty of people end up in your situation.. Buy a home, get orders elsewhere, can't sell it. the Military does NOT assist in these matters unless BRAC is involved.
this is something you need to work out with your mortgage lender.
