I currently have student loans of $55k(federal 17k & private 38k). Minimum payments are around $500 right now. I had some trouble with credit card debt last year and I've finally paid it off, but I still have the late payments and a collection history on my credit report. I just have these school loans left to pay.
If I join the military are there any options to put them on forbearance, defer them or anything else while active duty? I think that some federal loans can put put on 6% interest rates while active duty, but what about private school loans? I will be joining as prior service so I won't have the enlistment bonus for pre-existing loans. I will be attending school during enlistment after the 1 year wait period for Tuition Assistance. I will also be paying towards the Army College Fund along with the 9/11 Gi Bill to continue my education when I get out. |
