If the Patriots keep it up and the rest of their division keeps on struggling, the Patriots should have the division won by late November, I believe.

Yea, Dallas, Indy, and Pittsburgh. Everything else is high school. How can you guys even stand to watch the weekly thumpings? Thank God the Red Sox are still playing on Sundays. Smile

High school? Give it a rest. Those ‘high school’ teams are paid millions of dollars to play the game. Walk out on the practice field and tell all those huge players that they are no better than high school players and see what happens. Please, give this high school BS a rest. They are all professional. They are very good at what the do.

You should be able to hold your own against high school players. Go get yourself a mulit-million dollar contract and stand up against the other high school players. Wink

The patriots schedule has been soft, BUT they still have to go out there and play those games. Look at the packers, they played a struggling bears team and didnt show up in the second half so they got beat. I give the patriots credit for playing hard in all their games. I just hope they cowboys win tonight, so we can see what appears to be the two best teams in their divisions. GO COWBOYS

Every team can only play the teams placed in front of them. Both the Jets and the Chargers were playoff teams last year. So, at the beginning of the year, this schedule didn’t look soft. Maybe, just maybe, playing the Patriots helped make these teams look sooooooooo bad. Think about it. Wink

Patriots' opponents' combined record going into tonight's game: 7-16

Pats only account for 5 of those games.

Patriots' opponents' defensive rankings going into tonight's game: 32nd (Bills), 28th (Jets), 22nd (Chargers), 31st (Browns), 30th (Bengals)

Excuse me if i'm not all that impressed as opposed to Tony Kornholer and the moronic MNF crew who drool over the prospect of suckling upon Bill Belicheat's nutsack.

Wanna have some real fun with numbers? Look at the combined record of the Pats' opponents that don't play in Dallas, Pittsburgh, or Indy. Soft schedule. Soft division. Mazsik is absolutely right. I'm not saying the Pats aren't a really good team, but they haven't played anybody yet either.

Ya... and the Buffalo High School football team put in quite a show on Monday Night Football. Oh, I'm sure that you folks will come up with a reason the game was so close... like the high school team played w-a-y over their heads. Roll Eyes

And I remember when the Pats division was NOT soft, no one gave them credit for playing tough teams. Come on people, stay consistent, will ya?

Well I think the idea of being a good team is that you don't blow those games with the weaker teams. So the Pats don't have anything to apologize for if their schedule is the way it is. That is why I have yet to get any cocky feeling about them though...I'm waiting to see how it goes against Dallas, then the Colts.

As far as Dallas last night, with Romo throwing all those interceptions, I think it shows a lot how the team came together to pick him up and somehow still win.

Time will tell...it's still so early in the season to start yapping about who's the best.

Make that 7-17 for the Pats' opponents' combined record.

Looks like we also have a shift in defensive rankings as well:

Jets - 28th
Chargers - 22nd
Bills - 31st (congrats to the Bills for moving out of dead last)
Bengals - 30th
Browns - 32nd

As I said, come talk to me about Brady, Moss, and Belicheat when they play somebody that's actually capable of stopping an offense on any consistent basis. New england could very well beat Indy, Dallas, and Pittsburgh in a similar fashion......but until it happens let's not go overboard on the prognostications just yet.

I am a cowboys fan and i dont really like the patriots just because they win a lot. But Im sick already of everyone saying the patriots arent that good because they havent played anyone yet. Everyone is so high on the cowboys but their combined opponets record is worse than the patriots. The teams they played have a combined total of 5 wins. The patriots are real good. Will they win all 16 games, probably not. They have three hard games ahead of them and maybe just maybe one of those "high school" teams they play will get on a role and beat them. Bottom line is this sundays game between the cowboys and patriots will be good and could quite possibly be the a preview of the superbowl.

Actually, until today i've seen not one story in the media even making reference to the opposing records or the horrible defenses they've faced. And the reference I saw today only amounted to a two sentence snippet at the end of the story. but that's the sports media for ya. As for the Cowboys, at least they've beaten a team with a winning record this year.....although when Tony Romo gets abused as he did last night and the team barely slips by an AFC team with the worst defense in the league I have to really wonder. Yeah, Buffalo might've just come out and played a bang up game last night but there's also a perfectly good reason why an NFC team hasn't won a Super Bowl since 1999. The NFC is the inferior conference compared to AFC play.

Not exactly true. The afc has won the Super Bowl the last four years. But the Bucs won it back in 2003. The AFC has won 8 out of the last 10 Super Bowls though

Metal, let me use your logic and discuss the BEST football team of all time, the undefeated 1972 Miami Dolphins. During the regular season, this powerhouse played TWO teams with winning record Eek and TWO more teams with non-losing records Eek(played the Jets twice and they were 7-7 Wink). That means that of the 14 regular season games that they played NINE team had a losing record. Eek They only played two team that had a record over 500! Eek Don’t believe me? Here’s their undefeated year.

Kansas City 8-6
Houston 1-13
Minnesota 7-7
Jets 7-7
San Diego 4-9
Buffalo 4-9-1
Baltimore 5-9
Buffalo 4-9-1
Patriots 3-11
Jets 7-7
St Louis 4-9-1
Patriots 3-11
Giants 8-6
Baltimore 5-9

Total = 70 wins 122 Loses Ties = 3

My friend, using your logic, this undefeated team sucked! Eek

Now, that said, I’ll see how the year plays out. Making the playoffs is the first goal. Then getting home field if possible. Then getting to the Super Bowl and winning it again. But before any of that happens, they gotta play who is in front of them.

Not true at all, because for your above statement about my "logic" to be true i'd have to be on record saying that the Patriots "suck". I've said no such thing. All i've said is that the hype is completely unjustified at this point.......which it is. In addition, not only have I alluded to the cumulative records, but also the defensive rankings of their opponents (which might have a little something to do with the Pats gaudy offensive numbers). I'd love to see the defensive rankings of those teams the Dolphins played in that season as well.

Jyarger, thanks....I forgot about the Bucs.

Metal, we’re only five games into the season. All hype about any team is probably unwarranted. An undefeated team today could end the season with a 5-11 record, especially if a key player or two get hurt. Personally, I am tired of all the hype about any team going undefeated. It’s too early and I don’t think that coaches care if their team goes unbeaten. They care that they get into the playoffs.

Each of the past three years we have been fed the hype about the Colts going undefeated and no one said a word. Just as I didn’t like that hype, I don’t like this hype either.

I can’t give you a defensive rating but the Dolphins scored 365 and let in 161. Their high scores were 52-0 and 34-13 and 37-21 and 23-0 and 16-0. I don’t see that they played anyone that was strong.

Also, hunting seasons starts on Saturday. Wish me luck for your jerky depends upon it… Wink

LOL DIS - With the division the Pats are in, they were in the playoffs before the opening kickoff of the first game. Razz

I hope the Pats go 16-0, only because in the past few years, the number 1 seed in the playoffs rarely make it to the Super Bowl or win it when they do. I think we have to go back to the Pats second Super Bowl for the last time a number one seed went all the way. Roll Eyes

Maz, teams have to keep their eye on what is important… and being undefeated is not important. Making the playoffs is important. Sure, right now it looks like they will be in the playoffs with the Colts, but we are only five games into the season. That’s far too early to start making playoff and Super Bowl reservations.
