Baseball superstar Barry Bonds was charged Thursday with perjury and obstruction of justice for allegedly lying when he said he did not use performance-enhancing drugs.

It was ineviteble. The evidence against him is seemingly overwhelming. I've been saying for months it would happen. And it would've happened sooner if Alberto Gonzalez hadn't fired the prosecuting attorney in the BALCO case and we'd likely still have an honest homerun record. Too late. But if he's convicted MLB should absolutely remove his name from the books and give the record back to Aaron, or put an asterisk next to it at the very least.

Why not...If you remove anything he did, then why not remove records of others...McGwire, Sosa, Palmeiro, Giambi, etc...If your going to take away the record, you should take away the career...Not just Bonds, but all who took steroids...And now there are pitchers who took steroids...How about those guys? Maybe Bonds would have hit a thousand homeruns if not for the juiced up pitchers... Not gonna happen...If you guys are so unhappy with baseball, why not find another past time..... Personally, I could give a crap one way or the other...There is no way of telling who was juiced and who wasn't over the years...It will just have to be called the "juice era." We had a dead ball era...We had a white man era...We had a live ball era...And a Pete Rose era...Oh well, just ramblin'... Gunk |

Innocent until proven guilty....
Isnt that the AMERICAN way? Dont put Bonds in jail just yet. Let the system play it out. I am still a fan of Bonds and will always be a fan of Bonds. I am in agreement with others on this board who feel that if they want to remove Bonds' numbers off of the record books or put an "*" next to them; they should do it will all of those in baseball who have used. Barry is just the scape goat. If Barry Bonds hadnt come close to Aarons record, Bonds would not be indicted right now. It was a witch-hunt. With all the steroids in baseball, why single out Bonds? He hasnt even admitted to "knowingly" using, while others have... Go Bonds.........I support you!! |

"More likely than not" is a more reasonable standard. |

Next you'll be suggesting the "Queen of Hearts" doctrine:
A real Dodger fan (that is, a Brooklyn Dodger fan) wouldn't talk that way! ...gjd |

It's absolutely comical to see just how little (and by "little" i mean....absolutely zero)interest there is to acquire him on the free agent market. Not even the Giants and the only group of fans in the country that could stomach him want his sorry a$$ back. Don't drop the soap Barry!

Well a lot has happened since this thread went dead...Where are all the Sox fans, Dodger fans, Yankee fans and others who blasted Bonds...
I'm certain the Red Sox World Championship should have at least an asterist now, or maybe just taken away? And a "user" playing for the "perfect" Dodgers... Oh and I think Clemens name has come up as well... And I still haven't seen "proof" Barry took anything...Don't think his name has been linked to the same tests that got Big Pappy, Looselocks Ramirez and "I didn't do anything wrong" Clemens... Gunk |

That has to be one of the dumbest statements I have ever seen on these boards. If we go with your logic, then most all championships before now should be taken away. The biggest difference between Ortiz and Bonds is that Ortiz isn't an a55hole.
Manny is a cancer in the clubhouse because of his crap attitude.
Bonds will be known as one of the biggest cheating a55holes to ever play the game. Even A-Roid admitted to cheating. Bonds needs to come out and take his punishment like the man we all know he is not. |

And yet another (ex) Red Sox player connected to the stuff...Bronson Arroyo came out today and said he wouldn't be surprised to find his name on the list...
You Red Sox fans must be hatin' life...Kind of hard to whine about Bonds now... Gunk |

Wrong again! I believe that every team had its cheaters. I am not happy with what is being uncovered, but a lot of people cheated.
Personally, I believe all drugs - including steroids - should be legal. Why should Big Borther tell us what we can and cannot put into our bodies? |

Does begging and pleading count as foreplay? |
Not sure I understand all the hoopla over this. There has been cheating in baseball since it began. Players threw games for the gamblers. Pitchers continue(d) to throw "spit" balls, even though it's illegal. There were bowls of uppers and pain pills in the clubhouse for those days you needed an edge. Coke was a commonly abused drug in the lates 70s and early 80s. Corked bats and the list goes on.
As technology improves so does the methods of cheating. Another thing to remember; some of the players that tested positive for performance enhancing substances didn't test positive for illegal or banned drugs. Just because the substance is now banned by baseball doesn't mean a player cheated 10 years ago. |

Arroyo came out and said he took Andro, which was legal at the time. How are we Red Sox fan hatin' life? |

OK, enough is enough! It seems like this is just a big witch hunt now. Why are they looking to discredit things that happend so long ago? 2003? Come on! Regardless of how this turns out for Ortiz, how does this have any bearing on what is happening now? They need to start from scratch, test everyone in the league and get a baseline. Pick a starting point and leave the past alone. Pop positive once.... out for the season. Pop positive a second time....your gone! Whats next? Are they going to take away Boston's World Series trophy? I doubt it. Why are they nailing the players for taking things that weren't illegal at the time? Are they trying to discredit their character off the field? Babe Ruth was and alcoholic and a womanizer. Not exactly the role model. Yet he's still in the Hall of Fame for what he did on the field. How far back are they going to go and whats the point they are trying to make? Set a standard and stick to it!
