Well, it happened again. The "BCS Board" decided against it. Only the SEC Commish wanted the playoff and I know why.
If the tournament included 16 teams, the SEC would have 5 or 6 schools in it each year. 5/16 chance for a national championship, I would take those odds every year.
If the tournament had 8 teams, the SEC would have 3 or possibly 4 teams in it every year. I like those odds even better.
It's easy to see why College Football will never have a playoff, the SEC would dominate it each year! I guess the SEC will have to continue to do it the old fashioned way! Simply put, no other conference can compete with the SouthEastern Conference!
The problem with a playoff system in college is that the SEC would not put that many teams into the brackets. It would most likely be limited to 2, conference winner and a wildcard spot. One of the major hang ups is how do you determine who gets in? If you go by the polls, all the non-BCS conferences are pretty much excluded. That might not be a bad thing, but the NCAA would never go for it. Because of the money involved, it would only make the BCS conferences stronger.
One thing to remember, the NCAA is a voluntary participation program. If enough schools went out and formed their own association, there is nothing that can be done by the NCAA. The way they keep their power is by appeasing everyone. March Madness wanted to expand because of the money. The NCAA stepped in and said they had to include the mid-major conferences. The selection committee has been shafting these conferences every since, but the NCAA doesn't care about that, they kept the peace. The same would happen with a college playoff system.
One more thing to remember, you have find a way to include Notre Dame. This is not a shot at Notre Dame, it's actually a complement. There following is so large and vocal, that any playoff system that does not include them when they are at least mediocre won't work.
I thought the playoff they where talking about was the 4 team playoff system. so it would be the top 4 teams in the BCS polls. I think its a pretty good idea. Hopefullly one year they will do it until then we have what we have....

PSimon572, You are correct. Even with a "mediocre" season ND would have to be included for the "cash payout". I am a huge ND fan, but couldn't wait for the season to be over last year. Praying this year is a turn around. For the last three coaches (Davie, Wilingham, Weis) their third year coaching was the worst. That year was last year.
While a playoff would be nice in some ways, it won't solve the "My team deserved to be in the Championship Game" problem, and isn't that the whole reason people wanted a playoff to begin with? Instead of my team didn't get in the champioship game,it will be well my team deserved to be in the 4 team playoff, or my team deserved to be in the 8 team playoff, then 16 then 32 etc... It will never end, so I say keep the system we have now.
