Its getting real close to tournament time and i find myself watching more and more college bball games.

Im just wondering who is everyones favorite to win it all this year? My guess is UNC if they get back Ty Lawson. If not, then its a toss up between Memphis, Duke and Kansas.

big college ball fan hear. I love it. Indiana is my team but i havent been impressed with them that much. Gordon is out of control. His ball control is down right pathetic. Hell the past few games IUs ball control has been horrible. We do have a lot of guys that can shoot the ball from anywhere. I wont count them out but i dont think they will win it all.

A few weeks ago i was picking Memphis, Kansas, Butler, and Duke in the final four. Now i think i would have to take Duke out and insert, well i dont know yet. Tennessee is good but for some reason i dont get a warm and fuzzy picking them. That Memphis/Tenn game will be a dandy though on saturday.

Not impressed??? Are you kidding me? They are 22-4! You're right about Gordon being out of control 90% of the time, but if you didn't like them laying wood to the Boilermakers on Tuesday then you are not an IU fan. Bassett is tough too. When he gets a breather is usually when our ball handling goes south. This is the best team we've had in awhile.

BTW: I hope they throw Sampson out on his a55. Winning is great, but not with a black cloud over our clean record.

I should have said that they are not meeting my expectations. I was thrilled about the win against MSU and Purdue 100%. Until recently they havent played good ball. There was no hustle. their Def sucked. Lots of stupid turnovers. I swear if i see one more 10 second call im going to throw something and break my TV. We are a good team but i guess i had very very high expectations going into this season. I just think we still have some crap to work out. Gordon is a very good player but his Game intelligence is not where it should be. He throws the dang ball away all the time and i swear (i know this has nothing to do with GI) he has butter on his hands. However, when he does drive and is able to keep control of the ball it is a beautiful thing to watch.

I also agree that Sampson needs to go. Winning is very important to all of us fans but we dont want or need to cheat to win. Its damn embarrassing going through all this crap that was not needed. You dont need to make those extra phone calls to recruit at a program like Indiana.

Yeah what's up with the 10 second calls?? I swear I haven't seen that happen in years (imagine what the General would do) and it's happened quite a bit this year.

Gordon is tough, but I agree his game IQ is a little lacking. Not that he is not smart, he just tries to do too much sometimes. DJ White has been tough. I think their D has been pretty good. The only way you can win while giving up so many turnovers is playing good D.

I guess we'll find out Friday about Sampson. What a freaking idiot. Did you catch the student at the MSU game with the "Bring Bobby Back" T-Shirt? Security told him to remove it 3 times and he put it back on 3 times. Big Grin

Yeah I heard about that guy and the shirt. Pretty funny. I say we hire Bobby back for 1 day and let him retire as a Hoosier! just my thought.

DJ is tough. It will also be tough to watch him leave after this season. He is the core to our team. Its a shame that AJ has had a horrible final year. I was really looking for him to step up. Im not really sure what happened to him. I know his grades were down and he had to bring those up but it sounds like there is much more to his personal life. I hope he gets everything straightened out.

Whats up with Crawford? He had one hell of a game against Kentucky then he has but he is not consistent at all. I cringe everytime i see him on the floor. Basset is going to be one heck of a player in coming years. Taber has been playing awesome off the bench. I noticed that since he started getting playing time IU has hustled a lot more. He brings a nice spark to the team. I love seeing him on the court.

Man, you guys are harsh on Sampson. All he did was make too many phone calls. Is that really cheating? Against the rules... pathetically, yes it is, but cheating? How is it cheating? How did he gain an advantage on the basketball court?

I am not an IU fan, but from what I have seen, Sampson has done a great job there. Hell, he pulled Gordon away from the Illini. I am actually a Blue Devil fan and I find the recent comments by coach K aimed towards Roy Williams and UNC hilarious!!! Talk about getting under someones skin. That was great!!

Yes he is a great coach. That is the worst part of the whole situation. And yes it is cheating.(or breaking the rules...whatever) He gained an advantage by contacting recruites before he was allowed to. So yes, he did cheat. Who knows if they would've went to IU if say, Duke contacted them first. And I'm so hard on him because he did the exact same freaking thing two years ago and got caught for it. My 4 year old learns better from her mistakes than Sampson does. And he not only does it again, but then lies about it to the NCAA and IU Admin. I mean come on. The guy is an ethics nightmare and IU should NEVER have even hired him in the first place.

bkreigh,
Crawford has been a little schizo lately. I'm not sure his deal. I too have enjoyed seeing Taber get in there. I like walk ons for some reason (they have to work more I guess). He reminds me of Brian Sloan from way back. He just runs around and sets screens for everybody. Once he catches it, the ball seems to be on fire because he passes it so quick. He did have a nice dunk vs PU and a nice 10 footer that rattled in.

Good call jyarger. That was an awesome game!! I like Bruce Pearl. I heard an interview the other day on ESPN radio, where the interviewer asked if Pearl is as popular as the "other basketball coach at Tennessee". Pearl said that between he and Pat Summit, they have 7 National Championships. Pat Summit has 7 and he has 0. It was really funny how he said it.

He seems like a real down to earth guy and did a great job in preparing his team to play the number one team in the country.

I like Bruce Pearl too. I think hes a little weird though. Remember last year when he went to one of the lady vols games and painted his chest orange. Its cool for an 20 yrd old student to do that but not a 50 year old man.

I got pretty lucky on that call.

I thought it was cool that he went to the game to show support for the womens basketball program. I agree with you about the painted chest. Although, I don't know which was worse, seeing Pearl with the painted chest or seeing Pat Summit in the cheerleader uniform.

I agree that phone calls are not as big of a deal as paying students or other things. However, he screwed up and OU and promised not to do it at IU. A promise he did not keep. He brought humiliation to our program. Sure we want to win but not at all costs unlike the pats (sorry i had to take that opening. It is a joke not to be taken seriously).

As for advantages on the court it all comes back to recruits. Better players = better talent = more wins.

Sampson is a great coach and from the brief moment i spoke with him he seems like a great person as well. I would love to sit down and have a beer with him. However, he is not the kind of coach we need at Indiana.

Dont get me wrong i thought it was cool he went to the game and showed support for the womens team. But the painted chest was too much. I think though seeing summit in that cheerleading uniform was the worste thing ever.

Well Indiana the last 2 games they loose to Penn St. and the Gophers. Nothing like a nice morale booster going into the big dance! This is nuts.

I hope we get the chance to face you guys in the second round. Arkansas has a big team and could cause some problems for us. Taber and Thomas will need to have one of their best defensive games ever. Arkansas gives up a ton of fouls and this could help us out due to the fact that EJ gets to the line enough as it is. It should be a good game. Hopefully DD has chewed them out since IUs last two losses.

I really dont want to say its not going to happen but i cant see the IU beating UNC. I think the Heels are too good and fast for IU. But it is tournament time so anything can happen. And really i dont want to see it happen cz that really screws up my bracket lol..
