What part of Texas are you in? I used to wade fish a lot when I was in Port A.

I'm in the Freeport area. There's supposed to be plenty of good fishing, but I haven't figured it out yet!

Choccolate Bayou is good at the bridge. Of course...San Luis Pass. There are some good humps and if you hit it on a low tide you can mark them and fish them later. If you can get to the wiggles on the East side of Sufrside still you can try there. Also the leeward side of the jetties is good all the time for bull Reds. Fish the point where the water starts to lay down.

Be carefull though... the redfish can be addictive!! I got started here in NC almost a year ago. Now I own an Action Craft boat and I am fishing the IFA Atlantic Division, and the Redfish Action Tour here in NC for 09. Anyone else up in the Carolinas do any drum fishing? I will be heading down to Charleston for the IFA in March.

Guess I should have read what I wrote earlier. Dyslexia works for me.
East Coast is right. Once you catch a nice red, they will haunt you until you catch more.

I agree with very addictive. Espeacially when you find a school in 10 inches of water and you can see the wake they are making swimming towards your boat. It gets the adrenaline pumping pretty good.

Any good advice on tackle? I've got some jigs with shrimp and minnow bait, and some assorted spoons...

I have a great rig I will draw up for you and post on here. I used live bait, mullet, piggy perch and small crabs. I also used 1/4 oz jig heads, red, with motor oil shrimp tails. Mirror lures, swimming minnows in mullet and white colors, worked well also. This was over 4 years ago so check first to see before buying any. A cast net is a must if you don't want to pay for live bait.

got on a couple nice ones right at dusk a couple weeks ago. All upper and over slot fish. Landed a 28" and my partner had one come unbuttoned beside the boat about 34-36" Landed a few others, all on topwater! Couple of months ago got my largest red so far, 32" on topwater! Water is getting colder here now, so they should start wintering on the flats here soon, no more topwater bite... Nothing like a big red smashing a topwater lure!

The IFA tour dates are out, and in the Atlantic Divison we ended up with 2 events in NC! Mar 28 Charleston SC, then Surf City, NC May 23, and Morehead City, NC Sept 26. Now I just need to find a sponsor or two to help offset the cost of this addictive habit!
