"going to talk and cause suspicion..."

Just got back from skiing Sunday River over the Thanksgiving Day Holidays. Good early skiing conditions in the Northeast, fast and icy! The family skied all four days but my skiing was cut short by a nasty digger on the second day late in the afternoon that made it difficult to walk for a couple of days.
Giving the skis a tuning in the office as I write this and should be back up country in a couple of weeks to do it all over again. Hope to bring the older kids to Jay for the Telemark festival on the 6th of december run By NATO (North American Telemark Org)
Tight lines, think snow!

Took two of my boys to Cannon Mountain skiing yesterday. Got up and on the road before 5am and got first lift up the mountain at 8;30am. Great early season conditions on the lower half of the mountain with lots of expert slopes opened. lift broke down at 9am and the boys and I hiked up the mountain to earn some turns while the power was down. Power and lifts came back on at 10;00 and we continued skiing in good weather, sun and clouds till 2;30. Did some back country and under the ropes during the day and if you go to Cannon according to the patrol they will not chase you out of the out of bounds areas but they wont help you either if you get hurt. Cannon is a great old time skiiers mountain in NH with very steep tourain with twisting narrow fall lines. It also boost one of the largest total verticle and great views of the Franconia Mountain Range. I scored some great cheap tickets on craigs list and was able to take the three of us skiing for $65.00! Cheap, cheap sliding!
Liftlines were also small or not at all present and one could ski like a yo-yo all day long.
Think snow! Cool

I would love some snow rather than the ice we have right now! I had to drive my wife’s SUV on the grass in four wheel drive to get her out of the house today. My truck is coated in ice and I am not sure if I can get up the driveway. Snow is better than ice!

It was very icy in Concord this morning and conditions are worse in Chelsea/Boston area with an inch to a half inch of solid ice on all exposed surfaces! UGH !!!!
Be well,

Richard, have you ever made your way up to Mad River Glen in Warren, VT for telemark or otherwise? If not I highly recomend it, unless any of your younger ones are into snowboarding, in which case they won't let you near the mountain! -Jeff

I haven't skied Mad River. I have tried to get up that way and in fact have a free ticket to ski it this year that I got from one of the mountain managers at the Boston Ski Show. I am hoping to get up and ski it this year along with skiing Jay Peak. The mountains of NH are closer and easier to get to for me as well as I have some free lodging in NH and Maine all sewed up! Mad River, Ski it if you can!
Do you ski Vt?
Be well,
Dick

Loon was making snow like crazy last week. They look to have a ton of trails open. It snowed everyday in Lincoln, NH last week so they have a good head start on the season.

Hey Dick, well I don't get to ski it as much as "I can" these days at MRG as I'm located in Northern Arizona. I grew up outside Boston, and spent every winter from 1974- thru the mid-90's skiing at MRG before relocating out here! Nothing like skiing the waterfalls of Palisades Trail after a fresh snow. I highly recommend MRG for a new england ski experience like no other. They make no snow there, very minimal grooming, ALL areas are inbounds or out-of-bounds depending on how you look at it(if ya know what I mean) classic old-school single chairlift, and they BLARE Gratefull Dead tunes up the hill all day long! BTW MRG is VERY telemark friendly! I'm heading up to Telluride,CO on thursday for 4 days of two-planking! I'll post up the conditions next week! -Jeff

"Midstation at the snowbowl" your going to have to explain that one to me? Sudbury is a very nice town. I wanted to buy in Arlington but for the same price I could buy in Concord and surround myself with a lot more green space. They also have excellent schools and although when I bought the house I had no kids now I have five in the Concord schools.
I was stationed in Alaska with a guy from Concord and I used to thumb up here from arlington to swim at walden. Its a great town for hiking and out door sports etc...
Peace and have a happy holiday Jeff, I hope your enjoying some turns at the snow bowl!

The Arizona Snowbowl is one of the FEW ski areas Arizona has. They have no snowmaking there so they are completley dependent on natural snow. Last couple years they've only been able to open for a couple weeks, but three years ago they were open December until May. This year is shaping up to be another legendary year! Ahhhh Walden Pond, spent many an afternoon there swimming and "expanding my mind" in "High" School! Happy holidaze to you and yours as well Dick! -Jeff

No skiing for me yet. My wife and I took the kids up there for the week and enjoyed the peace and quiet. I want to go skiing a few times this winter, unfortunately I think it will only be at Wachusett since I am only about 10 minutes from there.

That is exactly what I do. I come in Fitchburg though. I take RT. 2 in the whole way and it isn't a bad commute because I don't hit any of the rush hour mess.

LOL, it is a decent mountain, well a mountain for us New Englanders. The jingle says it all, just minutes away, oh and good prices.

When you pass Crosby Corner in Concord you are within a mile of my house. If you breakdown or need any help in that area give me a call. For some reason I thought you lived in Maine. I bet we have passed on the road. I sometimes see a CG sticker on the back of a passing car.
Peace,
Dick

I loved Mt Wachussett, I used to work at the UMASS hospital in Worcester, we'd get off of work @ 3pm, hop in the car, get to the mountain just in time to enjoy a frosty beverage and hit the slopes for night skiing! Used to do that 2-3 nights a week for around $17 a ticket! -Jeff
