Tony,

Leave it to you to catch everything but what you are intending to catch. Don't know why this popped into my head but remember back in Cape Cod when you walked out on deck and found two persons casting plugs in the middle of the work day at a school of bluefish in the harbor?

God knows there is some truth to this now. I was flyfishing one morning last week and caught a 12" Speckled Trout. I was so proud, and I rowed back to the cabin with a big smile. When I get back, Jennifer tells me the kids caught a fish. They show me, and ill be damned if its not a speckled trout two times the size of mine. One again, much like the turkey, I am the laughing stock of Jennifers family.

As for the incident you describe, Yes, I do remember it well. At the time, I remember feeling shocked that folks from my department were fishing in the middle of a work day, directly in front of the Group office, but now, I think if I had any common sense, I should have picked up a pole and joined you. If it wasnt for times like that, we wouldnt have anything to look back on a laugh. Good times even though Brian still seems to hate me for it.

Back in the day during one of my helo AVDET's on a 270 that will remain nameless.....we were involved in a long, drawn out LE boarding. It went into the night. The ship had a spotlight shining on the aft starboard quarter. It was lighting up the water around the fantail. I might have been on the messdeck watching a movie when someone on the bridge made a pipe that some dolphin (mahi mahi for the tourists, dorado for the other bunch) were chasing baitfish and squid in the water where the spotlight was shining. Next thing I know there was a free-for-all as people came out of the woodwork running for their fishing poles. Well, I bought my rigged and ready fishing pole on the deployment and slept with it in my rack. I was the 2nd one to make it to the fantail followed by what seemed like anyone not involved with the boarding. Poles were whipping back and forth. I seen one fish and made a cast. The fish swam past my Mirro-Lure and spun around. He made his approach and hit the lure, the fight was on. Several other folks also hooked up. Everyone that hooked up lost their fish when their lines broke....except yours truely. Cool After a few minutes, I had my fish tending directly below the rail. The ship had 15' gaff, which told me this wasn't their first fish call. The problem was no one could find it in the dark. Someone called up to the BMOW to see if he knew where it was at. Next thing I know, I hear another pipe asking if anyone knew where the gaff was. A couple of seconds later here it comes. The gaffer reached over the side and hit the fish the first time. It took a couple of guys to pull it over the rail. I want to say it measured 45" or 48". I have some pics of it somewhere. I sliced it up for the freezer. I didn't know if the CO was mad for fishing during a boarding so I sliced him a few steaks. The next time I saw him he asked if I was the one who caught the fish. I said yes. He replied back by saying nice fish and thanks for the steaks. Phew!....I dodged a bullet. I had visions of my name showing up on the post-deployment report....and not in a good way.

John, I remembered the camera. Took some pictures tonight but don't know how to post them. Can I send them to you tomorrow and ask you to put them up for me? I am, after all, not very computer literate.

Got a similar story but not as worthy as the fish you landed. We pulled into the hook on Cape Cod one summer night and anchored up. I ran up to the bridge and review the sounder and noticed balls of fish at about 20 ft. I had rigged some whole squid with hopes of picking up a nice bass, mean while I started casting a slug. Now the only light I had was the red spot light on the stern which was plenty of light. One problem though, the blood and fish scales could not be seen. Well long story short, the ball of fish were 10-15 lb blues and my lines were going nuts. I pulled all of them in and went to one rod. I must have landed a dozen or so of these fat girls. I grabbed the cooler and started filling it. I always cut their gills to bleed them out to get rid of that nasty blue fish taste. Once my fun was over I cleaned up everything, so I thought. The next morning I was driven out of my rack straight to the fantail. There was blood and fish scales EVERYWHERE. The sun had already started baking the scales in. Ever try to scrub scales out of non-skid? It sucked. Got a little chewing from higher, but man was that a fun night.

That's a great reason to get the "lecture".

Nice mounts!!!

Loading pics is easy. Get a Photobucket account and I can walk you thru it. Here's the way I do it.

1. Save pic to desktop
2. Open up your Photobucket account
3. Click "Upload Photos and Video"
4. Click "Browse"
5. The "Choose File" window pops open, go to desktop and select the pic you want and hit "Open" at the bottom of the window and your pic will jump over to where the "Browse" line is.
6. Hit "Upload" and pic will upload to your album
7. Once you see your pic in your album, click on "Direct Link" and right click and "Copy"
8. Come back to Fred's and hit "Reply" like you normally do. When the Reply window opens up, look at the top of the toolbar and you will see a little green icon that says "Display Image" when you run your pointer over it.
9. Click or point on the "Display Image" icon
10. You will now see a line window that says "Image URL".
11. "Paste" your direct link that you copied above into the line window.
12. Hit "OK" and your pic link will jump to the message window that you normally type your responses in.
13. You can tab the link down to type in some comments above the pic.
14. You're done!!

It doesn't take long to upload pics once you do it a couple of times.

Class dismissed.......
