Ok, my turkey this year didnt even look close to this. Not even 1/4 of this one. Maybe 2/10th of this one. Now I am depressed. I think I shot a chicken. I think the fan on my bird measured about 5in, and there were 4 feathers.

Them groundhogs are an interesting bunch of critters. I got one about a week ago, but havent been out there since the steer attack. His days are numbered though.

I got rid of my two groundhogs last year. One with a bow, after missing with a .22. The second was smoked. I got some of the counter top smoke bombs that 7-11 sells. When the hog went under a shed, I tossed in a couple of smokes, sealed the openings, waited 15 minutes and it was over, except for planting him.

Those little guys wiped out my broccoli and corn plants last year. A lot of work eaten up.

I remember a couple of units ago in housing I will not name, but I had groundhogs everywhere. They lived underneath my shed as well and they got into my flower beds. My wife and I tag teamed one. I stood at the door and pulled my bow to full draw. On the count of three, she opened the door and I released. The coyote's ate good that night.

Tony, I can picture you shooting this quail mistaking it for a turkey and bringing it home so proud and Jennifer laughing hysterically at you as you have this poor thing strapped to your four wheeler. Then these little hungry faces come running in and say, "dad, I thought you were going to get dinner!" Then not to disappoint them you hang your head and drive to Subway and return with turkey melts.

It pretty clear that you know us well. I am not sure you know how close you are to what really happened. Jennifer did indeed laugh, and her brother was here as well, and he laughed too. I came up all proud, my heart pounding, and told them I got one. They said "sure you did". I said come on, ill show you. They walked back with me, and started laughing so hard they had tears coming out when they saw it. I thought it was mean.

Jennifer shot a nice one with her dad a few years ago, and anything I get doesnt compare. It bothers me that my wife has bagged a large bird and I havent. It doesnt help matters much that both breasts and legs fit in one sandwhich bag. Jennifer has 5 uncles, and I hate going to see them now because my bird now comes up as a source of entertainment for them all.

My vision of a cornacopia and nice bird served with wild greens on the table has been replaced with jokes and laughter from my relatives. Cruel bunch her family is.

Dick

I hate to say it, but a grouse might have been a little larger than what I shot. Kind of wish a ran over that damn ring neck Pheasant that was screwing around in the road about a month ago. At least a would have redeemed myself somewhat.

The guys on Maryland Whitetails said it was a hognose. It was a pretty interesting find. It hissed abit and would flare up like a cobra. Pretty intimidating for a 12" snake. Here's acouple more pics. A little fuzzy. Sorry....

Absolutly correct, BZ to Chuck and Maryland Whitetails. An Eastern Hognose it is or Heterodon Platyrhinos. Range goes all the way to Southern New Hampshire. Never in my life ran into one, but did find an almost 6ft rat snake hanging out in a tree by the house today.

Chuck

I suspect Hawaii may have a few Brown bird snakes from Guam hanging around. They have been fighting that battle for years. Ever see a mongoose there? Kind of looks like a ferrett? Three weeks? You taking I-81 at all? You should stop by the house, call it a rest stop. I want to see how tall those kids have gotton.

I used to run into the Ole' Hognose back in Carolina on the way to the ponds. The first one I saw freaked me out. I was like "there is no cobra's in the U.S., is there?" They were alot darker down there and mostly brownish.

I dont really have much of a clue about snakes. I know what a rattlesnake is, and a copperhead, and that about where is stops. One of my kids bought a book on every species of snake, turtle, and frog in America. I had to reference that for the hognose, range and latin name.

I have a question, what brand of battery are people useing in their cameras? Its extremely annoying to walk through 14 acres pulling a doe in heat patch behind my boot only to find that the new battery I put in the camera didnt last past the first night.

My camera's (Sony P41 & P32) take double AA's. I get the long life lithium's. Also, if your camera has an option to turn off the LCD while taking pics, turn it off. You don't need it. All you want is the camera to take pictures when it's supposed to. On mine, I turn it off to save battery life. Otherwise it will stay on for a couple of minutes before automatically shutting off, wasting battery life. When I come back to check the pics, I turn the LCD back on. Also make sure your camera is not facing the sun. That might keep the IR sensor activated, thereby keeping the camera in the on position, yet no pics.

I have two cams out now trying to get some "deer crossing the creek" pics. If we get a storm I'll need to run back out there and pull them fast so they don't get washed away. Hopefully I'll get a few decent pics.
