Okay, as the nation celebrates the Yankees elimination from the playoffs, the big news is the Joe Torre will be fired. Torre seems to be a really nice guy and a class act. Personally, I like the guy. But, is his firing really unfair?
Yes, he brought his team to the World Series 6 times and won four. Yes he made the playoffs every year. But…
Over the last five years, George invested more than one billion dollars into the Yankees payroll. He bought everybody they needed to win it all yet came up short. If you invested over $1,000,000,000 wouldn’t you want a World Series win?
So, is Torre getting a raw deal or does he deserve to not be rehired?
I think George should just skip the process and buy his players and coaches all 2007 World Series Champions rings. That's pretty much what he's trying to do anyways.
I think Torre is nothing but CLASS. Personally, I'd hate to work for Steinbrenner, an all or nothing guy. Many coaches are appreciated for getting their team to the playoffs, not with Steinbrenner.
Maybe Torre will go to another AL team and haunt George. That would be justice. Time will tell if he cares to go on but I thought I heard on the news that he said he isn't ready to retire yet. Good for you Joe!
He's probably getting a raw deal. Now i'll be honest, I don't think what he's done with the Yankees is an accurate measuring stick to gauge how good of a manager he really is. A trained monkee could have some decent success with the rosters that team has had. I only think he's getting a raw deal because if there's one thing sports history has proven is that money can't buy team chemistry and motivation.
Personally, i'll take Jim Leyland any day over Torre. One thing Torre has NEVER had to do in New York is make chicken soup out of chicken sh*t, like alot of other mangers in the league have had to. Send Torre to Pittsburgh to manage the Pirates and let's see how good he REALLY is.
Agree that alot of manager's could have had the same success, it's still kind of messed up to give him that treatment. When you think Yankee managers you have to put his face up there.
What Torre should do is come to Boston as a bench coach for a year and wait for a good job to open up. I'd love to see Scumbrenner's face with Torre sitting next to Tito. Sounds like a good sitcom "Torre and Tito" lol.
Who do you guy's think should take over as Manager? And I hope Abreu, A-Rod, Posada, Rivera, and Petite bounce there way otta there.
