I don’t know how many of you caught the Kimbo Slice fight the other night, but if you watched it I think you would agree that the referee stopped the fight too early because Kimbo was going to lose. It was a poor fight to bring attention to MMA in prime time! The fight was not going Kimbo’s way and, sine the Extreme Organization needs Kimbo to win, he won. It was terrible officiating! If Kimbo ever fights a Randy Couture or someone like that and he doesn’t knock them out early, Kimbo will lose… BIG!
I think the fight was stopped "relatively" fairly. That cut on the ear was absolutely wicked and Thompson was fast on his way to unconsciousness. The ref could have waited an extra punch or two but not much more than that.
That said, the fight was terrible. Both fighters were incredibly unimpressive. I'm not entirely sure why those two headed the fight card. I mean I know why but still, it was a terrible decision. The Lawler/Smith fight was pretty good though, right up until the uncalled for doctor stoppage.
If you watch the underground fights on youtube, Kimbo lost one fight, and it went almost exactly the same way. Even with him laying on the floor at the end. He has no stamina, and beyond the first round, he quickly gets exhausted. Do a search for Kimbo v Adryan. He tore that white boy apart, and that is by far the best I have seen him fight.
You're right, Gannon basically outlasted Kimbo in that fight you're talking about. I don't get it; he's gotten top notch coaching/training. You would think he'd be good to go.
Everyone thinks that fight was fixed. It might have been stopped early but i think if it would have lasted another 30 or so he was going to be sleeping. The whole night of fighting the refs sucked.
I dont get why people want to see him fight someone one the high level as Randy couture or someone like that. Of course if he fought them he would lose. the have been training mma for years.
I was a little impressed with kimbo though, he actually showed some ground game where as a lot people thought he would be tooled on the ground
Kimbo’s opponent looked ‘out’ a few times and would shoot to get his head straight. Since Kimbo couldn’t stop this guy from shooting, wait till he gets in with a class fighter. If it wasn’t fixed, you must say that the organization wanted their boy – Kimbo – to win. They are relying on Kimbo for press and to sell tickets.
I think he was out on his feet but would have rather the ref allowed Kimbo to finish him, so i dont think the fix was in. Kimbo looked like a guy that is learning the MMA game. I just dont think he has the time to become a factor as he is already 34. But he sells tickets so we will continue to see him, their best bet is to continue putting him up against strikers and not allow him to get schooled by a good grappler.
I just wish that Sundays WEC card had been on network TV. that was a much better display of what MMA is all about.
I'm not an MMA fan, but I saw a piece on CNN.com about the primetime event and it was very critical of this Kimbo Slice. It essentially said Slice is all image and that any experienced mixed martial artist would take him to school in convincing fashion and that Slice's opponent the other night was a "tomato can".
I did, make a point to watch the Uriyah Faber/Pulver fight on the WEC event that was televised on VS Sunday night. Faber's an exciting fighter IMO.
For those interested, there's a very lengthy article on the guy that owns UFC in this month's Rolling Stone.
yes elitexc isnt matching him up against anyone that can pull of a submission, theyre are trying to build a company and with kimbos internet fame they figure they can bank it on him for right now.
Thompson is a can but im mean honestly who do you want him to fight. the guy only had 2 professional fights.
The Faber pulver fight was good. I dont believe anyone thought that the kimbo fight was going to be anything special. most thought he was going to come in there and hit him three times and he would be done.
