....And I'm finally going to ship! Took 17 months to make it this far in the FC pipeline. Going to be stationed in Mayport, FL. Any tips, tricks, or advice?

I remember the day I checked onboard ship. It was also in Mayport, and was after hours. I was SO nervous. But it was not as bad as I had thought it would be. Went just fine.

15995710,

Any follow up on your adventures on Haze Grey and Underway?

Was your FC pipeline at Great Lakes?

Was an instructor there at FC "C" School after I made Chief in 95. Was wondering what "C" schools were there now?

In my time it was CIWS, 53F Radar, Mk 68 Digital Upgrade, and MK 86. I was a Digital Upgrade Instructor.

Went to Mk 92 Mod 2 and Mod 6 school in San Diego after a DDG-14 decom in 91.

My first Sea Duty was FF-1052 in Yokosuka, Japan in 77. Still remember the rush of seeing the Bow Light and the 1052 as the van drove along the waterway... Lucky for me my Buddy from "C" FTG3 Dave Williams was there for 3 weeks while I was on leave and FF School in San Francisco.

I was at Tech Core (Yeah, I know, dating myself) and FC Strand Sep 95 - Jul 96. I remember the Mk-86 C-school being at Great Lakes (in the building immediately south of the Tech Core and DS Strand building), but CIWS was only available at San Diego and Dam Neck by that time.

Personally I went through the TARTAR Mk-14 Mod 5 C-School after it had moved to Dam Neck before heading to USS KIDD (DDG 993).

When I left Great Mistakes in 87 they had one or 2 CIWS mounts in the North end of Bldg 616 and MK 86 was in Bldg 617 the one south.

I saw the removal of the Mk 37 and Mk 56 Systems during my time at GL.

I did a Goggle Street View and couldn't believe all the new buildings and saw the roof on the abandon Green Glass Building was peeling away. There was some stuff in the paper about trying to save the glass building but I bet it's long gone...

Even the Chief's housing unit I lived in on Washington Drive looked rebuilt....
