Currently I am stationed overseas with a remaining 2 years of sea service in my rotation. I have noticed 2 "hot" billets this month that I would like to apply for. I wish to continue to stay overseas and have a Consecutive Overseas Tour screening that has been approved. The two billets are TYPE-6 shore duty, but I believe can be counted as sea duty.
Would I be eligible to apply for this TYPE-6 shore billet even if I still have 2 years remaining at sea? My career counseler said to submit the question to the detailer first, I have tried to email my detailer about this question and havn't gotten a clear reply. I understand they are busy helping others and this particular detailer has been known to not be my assistance. Any information would be useful.

Thank you,
An Overseas Shipmate

Overseas Shore Duty (Sea/Shore Type Duty Code "6"): Duty performed in overseas land-based activities, which are credited as shore duty for rotational purposes. Members are not required to be absent from corporate limits of their duty station in excess of 150 days per year.

Duty type 3:

Duty performed in a land-based activity, which does not require members to be absent more than 150 days per year, but is credited as sea duty for rotational purposes only due to the relative undesirability of the geographic area.

My first duty station was type 3 and for single sailors, the tour was 18 months, for married ones, it was 24 months. I'd say your last two years would be sufficient to request this one.

Some of these undesirable geograhic locations are accompanied tours, while others are not,if you have dependents to consider.
