I served in the active duty Air Force for four years and in the Air National Guard for ten years. I am about to be awarded my commission as a DCO in Public Affairs.

I'm working on assembling a new ribbon bar for my Navy uniform and have a question regarding the ribbons and awards that I can wear. I know that I can wear all of my federal (Air Force) awards and ribbons, but I am assuming that I CANNOT wear my state awards (good conduct, counterdrug service, and drill attendance). Can someone confirm this for me? I tried looking at the Navy regs, but can't seem to find an answer. Thank you!

Don't be too sure. Good Conduct Medal, the ANG's equivalent, achievement awards, etc. yes for the Navy Uniform. I'm not too sure about the BMT ribbon being allowed. And if you have like the AF shooting ribbon (or is it a medal in the AF?), you have to wear the Navy equivalent.

State military awards I would say are a No-Go.

Congrats on the commissioning!

Suggest you go to the Navy Personnel Command site, highlight "Support and Services" and then select "US Navy Uniforms" from the drop-down menu.

Scroll down, on the right you will find links regarding awards, including information on what is NOT allowed. There are a lot of USAF decorations that are not allowed.

Congratulations on getting commissioned and good luck.

Thank you, SgtLtUSMC and Boats22151 for your responses! The Navy Personnel Command site was very helpful.

I was surprised to see how many of my Air Force ribbons are disallowed on the Navy uniform, but heck, I'm just happy to be serving again! I'm glad I checked with you before I ordered my ribbons.

Thanks again!
