Hey Boats,

Yeah that would be me…

Just to prove a point that all of the recent sadly High-VIS F&*k Ups are not new to the Navy we all dearly Love… Sadly so many youngsters who serve today have a historical knowledge quotient/reference point that is based only on their date of birth forward…

It just shows that things have not changed all that much over almost 95+ years. Officers still trying to do the bob and weave and cover up “oop-sies” that put leaders, doctrine and the mission(s) and survivability of certain vessel types into question. Plus the press doing everything within its media power to place the military in a bad light.

Certain things are timeless.

Over the years I have submitted many a picture to include on that site. Mainly in the Destroyer section but others also, scattered throughout the site.

If you see a picture that says to the effect of "submitted" by Tony Cowart, that be me.

Buck,

To put it in 21st century terms..
You are soooooo ****ing going go to that nether place for your total lack of PC'ness!!!!!

My Gawd how dare you! Do you not realize that there are children out there climbing the bulkheads/walls to get in the Navy?

NOT because they actually have anything to offer...
But because America OWEs them that 100K signing bonus.

That armour couldn't have been too thick if a dummy torpedo punched a hole in her. Big Grin

MP, Correct, it wasn’t very thick at all. Very thin as a matter of fact.

Yes it didn’t take much to punch a hole in the side of the U.S.S Maryland ACR-8. Later renamed U.S.S. Frederick ACR-8, on 9 November 1916.

Go to Navsource dot org, click on cruisers and look for the Maryland ACR-8 under Armored Cruisers. Scroll down to where it shows the damage inflicted by the Weymouth Torpedo.

Six years later, the Frederick’s sister ship the San Diego ACR-6 suffered a real world torpedo hit from the Imperial German Navy’s U-156, on 19 July 1918. She sank in 28 minutes with the loss of six lives off of Fire Island New York. The only major warship lost by the United States in World War I.
