I was there in 07 for a 6 month deployment. The money was sick! The per diem was about $122 per day when I left. You are also paid immenent danger pay, family sep (not sure on family sep was single at the time). All the money you make while in Bahrain is tax free. I always thought it was kind of wierd though, in the time I spent in Bahrain I never once felt I was in danger. Except on the ride to and from work....they drive crazy over there. If you get a chance stop by the souq. They have everything from bootleg dvds to custom made jewelry and hand tailored suits.
nope gerry, Bahrain has been accompanied for a few years now.. and recently they extended that to those with school aged kids. one of my very good friends from Yokosuka just arrived there with her DH and 2 young sons. in fact today is HHG delivery day!
If you are a little more senior and can manage to re-enlist and get 2 maybe 3 SRB payments while you are there the tax free aspect almost starts looking like a scam when you consider just how undangerous it is and has been for many years now.
I was TAD there often in the 90's it was no more "dangerous" then being stationed in Naples IT where I was at or MS gulg coast where I transferred to.
"immentley dangerous" but you can have your dependents there??
I am an MA3 set to go there for my final 18 months of my contract on unaccompanied orders. My question is what special pay(s) am I looking at, and will my family still receive bah back in the states and if so how does it work if they move back to my home of record?
Yes you will still get BAH w/dependents, it will be based on their location. A move home can be authorized as it is orders over 1 year in length. You will have to talk to your Detailer about them or maybe your current command.
