For anyone who ever longed to live in the Southern Hemisphere...
http://www.navy.mil.nz/join-us/join-from-overseas/elig/default.htm Introduction The RNZN is increasing its recruiting pool to include applicants of foreign nationality with previous or current military service. There is a current requirement to fill vacancies with skilled personnel with comparable qualifications and experience that cannot be satisfied by internal career progression within the RNZN. Eligibility Applicants will need to meet the following basic criteria for consideration: Be a current or ex-serving member of the UK, Australian, US or Canadian Armed Forces. Have been a citizen of either UK, Australia, USA, Canada or NZ for a minimum period of 10 years. No good deed goes unpunished. |

Thanks for the heads up but I think I'll stick with the Worlds finest Navy for a while.

Maybe they're looking for "well seasoned" old salts that the "worlds finest? Navy" deems unqualified. You know, those guys that smoke, drink, curse, and are, heaven forbid NOT PC... |

I always joked about joining the French Foreign Legion after the Navy.
Since I'll probably never do that, maybe this could be an option. -OSSA- |

Ah, HA!! I have some friends in Auckland in the I-E business. I'll have to check it out!! Rate of exchange is 76 cents on the dollar (USD to NZD) if anyone is checking comparable salaries. Soooo - they don't have submarines on their list. Hmmm. Ah, well, maybe we can commandeer one from the Aussies! "Mack the Knife" CDR USN (Ret) Illegitimi non carborundum |

I would actually do this. I wonder what it does for your current US citizenship though.

Oh well, it may not be a big deal for the younger crowd, but serving at sea with woman (for me anyway) would be a detriment to combat readiness. Say what you want, a mixed force is never as effective as an all male one as far as I’m concerned. And the question asked is: what do you know???.. Well first off, I spent my last 10 years of my active duty career in Army aviation and I know full well the combined limitations that having woman make on a unit’s ability to operate. And trust me, I have spoken to many fellow senior NCO’s and 0-5s and above from several service branches and they all agree. “They” are more trouble than they are worth. So I expect the RNZN is about on par with the Canadian Army, a mixed bag. When I see the Canadians come here to train in our “sand box” it is always a laughable event. Ok, I have said it and it appears that I’m female bashing. Nope, not at all, just calling it they way I have seen it. |

10 DAYS SUSPENSION NEMESIS |
I considered joining the Australian Submarine force. Even talked to a recruiter at one point. They run the exact same combat systems that I teach, and they are desperately in need of people.
Freemantle pretty much rocks, so who wouldn't be tempted? |

Joshua, actually the Aussies are looking for well-trained sailors from the US, UK, NZ or Canada as well...
http://www.defencejobs.gov.au/recruitmentCentre/overseasApplicants/navy.aspx It is an interesting option to ponder though. I mean, retirement from the USN at 38-43 years old. Then serve another 20 in NZ with another full pension and still being fully retired before the age of 65. And CDR Mac, I checked out the salary range too. No good deed goes unpunished. |

Reminds you of the USMS Officers from maritime school doesn't it? No good deed goes unpunished. |

That would be a dilemma, right???... |

Yeah, well, I can go either way. I was a [early] nuke, as well. Since my friend is in the I-E business, maybe he can 'arrange' a purchase. "Mack the Knife" CDR USN (Ret) Illegitimi non carborundum |

Somewhat of a conundrum, yes indeed, but certainly a highly unlikely one given that there has been no instance of one democracy making war on another in the history of mankind. No good deed goes unpunished. |

"In 1986, New Zealand banned the entry of US Navy ships into their ports in the belief that they were carrying nuclear weapons or were nuclear-powered. The US responded by suspending relations with New Zealand as a member of ANZUS. For Australia, this alliance with the US has continued to be a foundation of its defence policy."

I believe that you are obligated for 30 years when you are retired. So if you have retired with 20 years you are in the fleet reserve (R)for 10 years and can be called back to active duty at any time. So I think enlistment in a foreign navy would negate your pension, For at least the time you are in the employ of a foreign navy. I think some sharp PN would know the answer to this one. Then there is the matter of security clearances. When I retired I had a T.S. I am sure the USN would not want me in a foreign navy.bug who knows

Acutally I didn't go to KP, but served four (4) yrs time at Maine Maritime (with time off & furlough on some non-duty weekends for good behavior). No good deed goes unpunished. |

Well, you never know. From what I've seen they are too laid back and besides, would the US government wish to disrupt NZ's exports of Steinlager to the states? No good deed goes unpunished. |
