It is pretty sad to think that anyone would actually buy these, if you want one take your tail to a recruiter and enlist so you can earn one. Dont be a cowardly PX Ranger and buy one! I did my duty and I earned mine and would love to get a hold of one of the sellers or buyers by the neck for attempting to use these awards as a fraud for there own personal gain.

A man in my town was caught with a Medal of Honor fake license plate and became the disgrace of the town. He was never even in combat.

It's sad stuff...

I was shocked to see that someone is selling these items on eBay! I guess it's really true what they say about eBay, you can anything you want on eBay, no matter what it is!
If you didn't earn it, and I see you wear it, everyone I can think of will know about the false impression of that person trying to sell himself/herself as a HERO, when they are NOT! What MORON would even want to do such a thing? Don't they realize that you WILL get caught adventually, everyone does!

I am shocked about the numbers of medals sold on ebay and the people who buy them. I bought one medal for $25.00 to protect it and its an Army issue Medal of Honor issued for action in the Wilderness in 1864. I had done research so I could return it to the family of the recepiant only to find out they were the ones who sold it and were pissed it only brought $25.00.
I'm keeping it to protect a special medal from a time that nearly tore this country apart. When asked about it I show them the research and tell them that there is no living decendant of that soldier and I bought it off ebay to keep it from being thrown in the trash or a pawn shop. This I do as a civil war reenactor who wants to preserve our history. Some day this small piece of history will go to a proper museum for our future generations to see.

This really is old news. Not just Ebay, but lots of online stores sell Medals, Ribbons, just about anything you could want. I've see none that even ask for military Id, or a DD-214. With this stolen valor act, I think some of these wannabes are going to get themselves into trouble. If you see something that doesn't look right, ask questions.

I have my grandfather's DD214, but I don't think it listed all of his awards. There's three typed lines, but I have a mess more ribbons & things than can be accounted for on the DD214.

If I were to contact the National Archives, would they be able to give me a full list? I'm trying to put together a memorial display (see this thread), but I need apparently need more information than what is provided on the DD214.

Also, is it considered poor form to replace my grandfather's missing ribbons by ordering them from those online catalogs, or is that acceptable? I'm not trying to say he had something that he didn't earn, I'm just trying to replace what he had.
