Does anyone out there know where to get any of the old Castro type hats that the US Army used in the 50s-60s. I'm not looking for a cheap immitation that ebay has. Looking for the real deal. Thanks! |

azmax, You might want to try going back on eBay into the Militaria section, US WWII. The original 'Ridgeway caps' do show up there from time to time, and they're not very expensive. Another militaria website you might want to try is Manions.Com, they have one of the largest online stores in N. America, and again, the Ridgeway caps also show up there, but since these caps are becoming rare, it's kind of a hit and miss when searching for one. |

Manions is an auction site with a less than sterling reputation . . . the OP may be OK in finding what he wants |

Just trying to give him some help. Manions has had their fair share of problems true, but so has every other major auction site. Rigdeway caps are not always the easiest to find, hence he might try Manions if all else fails.....It wouldn't serve any purpose to reproduce such a cap, and would cost much more to make a repro. WWII German caps for sure can always be speculative, but the US caps on Manions shouldn't be a problem. JMHO. This message has been edited. Last edited by: ProgMod, |

Thanks for the ideas. I had one as a kid, but, they weren't hard to find back THEN!
Thanks Gene! I don't want Homeland Security at my house because I get a package from Cuba. |

Good luck azmax...The 'ridgeways' are out there, just not as plenty as they use to be. I had one as a kid also from my Dad who was a tank commander in the Army. I wish now I had kept it. Funny sometimes when you get older, you look back on those kind of things and wish you'd held onto it.
I had a relative who had once been a Green Beret. Years later in civilian life, he went back home to try and find the beret. He never could remember where he put it. Unfortunately, it never showed up. He purchased a new one, but it was never the same as the one he was issued with. Funny how things that once meant a lot to us become sentimental. |

I can understand his frustration. I lost most of my stuff years ago. Slowly rebuilding my little collection of my awards, patches, and such. Never realized how expensive it can get. I used to collect WW2 military patches, uniforms, etc and when I went active duty, I just lost the interest and sold my collection. Now I see what they are selling for on ebay!
