I just been reclassed to armor and trained on the new equiptment ( stryker), my concern is the lack of armor on the MGS. it said to have no armor slating, hows it going to fend off the rpg's. as a crewmen I know this system is awesome, but alot of tankers said that an 50 cal. can peirce thru the armor. Now you may not be concern about this ,but as I will soon be the gunner in one. What about of those rounds inside, plus my crew. do we even have a chance if there was a ammo fire or an armor peircing round eginiting a round? this concern me and I would like to stay around to the future on this awesome weapon of ours. Should I be worry or just drive on and go with I got? How would you feel if this was in your mind. Give me feed back on this subject, written by a concern crew member.
if iam not mistaken, Stryker has the same form of armor as a Bradley or Abrams. its Chobam armor. i never rode in a Stryker, but the guys from 2nd ID say they wouldn't want to go back to Iraq in anything else. so get as much info as possible. Good luck, God bless..

where did you go dude? change ur mind? shame if you did. that MGS is gonna be a real valuable asset.
Not as tough as the Abrams but still a much needed vehicle. As for the armor package on the Stryker it is like the Bradley. I believe they have reactive armor plating not Chobam like the Abrams. Going down to a 105mm gun from the Abrams 120mm will take some getting used to, but the 105mm will still punch through anything you run into out there.
the Stryker outer hull is made of steel. how thick i cannot recall off hand. the second layer is the ceramics used by the Abrams and Bradley. the last layer is a half inch of Kevlar. there is steel behind that too i believe, but i know the first 3 layers are steel, ceramics, kevlar. sounds like Chobam armor. having a lite tank that has a 105mm gun, plus the speed and maneuverability, easily deployable, able to use its speed against a tank like the t-72, 80 or 90, i bet it can hold its own.
