Hello.
A friend of mind asked me if it is possible for a civilian to purchase a "retired" or "junked" humvee for a POV? I've already asked him if he thought about just buying an old Hummer 1 series. He doesn't want to. I am aware that during wartime, the military will not give up any ground vehicles either because of demand. However, if someone knows the answer to the question, please feel free. Thanks. |

This is from the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service web site:
https://www.drms.dla.mil/sales/drms/faq/faq.html#jeephumv Humvee/HMMWV The military version of the Humvee does not meet DoT commercial safety standards and is sold for recovery of parts and scrap. Basically, since the HMMWV does not have required safety features, the DOD will not sell it for use as a vehicle. It sounds like it sells it for scrap metal, etc. |

I thought there was a HUMVEE that was from Iraq that was all jazzed up and sold/given away as some kind of fund raiser.
All I remember was that it was red and had 'chrome' wheels. |

I have seen some civilian Hummers that were customized as a tribute to the troops. One that stands out was painted with the faces of several Marines that had been killed. Here are the pics:
http://auto.military.com/roadwarriors/view/showroom/96704.html The only surplus HMMWV's on the market are supposedly illegal. An article that I read once upon a time stated that if you saw a military HMMWV for sale, it was likely put on the market illegally. |

They're usually sold for off-road use only, and no form SF-97 from the U.S. Government. Some have been licensed for road use in various states. Good luck.
