Ok hear me out for a minute or two..This may sound corney, although I liked the idea, and considering the wife told me to post this I dare not do it Smile

Anyway, as some of you may know my wife was in Balad and returned home last week. She is in the U.S.A.F. and worked medical while deployed. So the other day we were preparing to make a shadow box of the American flag she brought back that was flown in a airplane over Iraq on a misson (came with a certificate) and all the ribbons, medals and coins she got while over there. Trying to make a really nice shadow box. Anyway, something she really wanted to include in the box was a flag I had bought her that still hangs from the front of our house. Here is a link to what it looks like but not the exact one...

http://i13.ebayimg.com/04/i/06/06/3a/39_1.JPG

Now to the reason of this post...She really likes this flag and I thought it was pretty cool when I bought it but we can't fit it into any of the boxes we are making for display so she came up with the idea to offer that very same flag to all of you to fly when your spouse/finace/bf/gf returns home. This flag is no great expensive thing. It is really nice looking and I got it at a good price.

To make a long story short, we were thinking of starting a 'flag signing' type deal solely for those of us that visit this particular forum. Stealing my wifes idea to offer this flag to someone who's loved one is coming home, I went a step further and signed this flag with a Sharpie with her first name, branch of service, and the dates she was in Iraq along with her units 'moto' and the military.com link. Now it is time to mail this flag off to the next person who will do the very same thing... fly this flag for a while when their loved one comes home, sign it, and pass it on to the next person who's loved one is returning soon, including the same info.

Anyway, that's the idea. I thought it was pretty cool and we would be proud to send off this very same flag to someone else to carry on the signing. Good idea, bad idea, who knows. However, it is ready to be sent to anyone that wants it. It's like a buck to mail and I would be honored to send it to someone that is interested in doing this.

Post here if interested...

Ozz & Wife, I think that's a wonderful idea. Esp since many of us have leaned on the others in here to make it thru this time. Mine wouldn't be home for 4 months yet but I think it's great! Congrats on your wife being home...

I think this is a neat idea. Who knows...maybe it will become a historical heirloom and end up in a museum as a part of the GWOT.

Congrats on the reunion!'

my hubby's already home, but I just wanted to commend you guys on such a cool idea!! Hopefully it will keep moving from family to family and make it back to you guys at some point...if you want it to that is. (If you do, think about sewing in something with your address so that if a person gets confused as to who to send it to next, they can send it back to you to be sent out again or for you to keep...? just an idea!)

I LOVE IT! Is it for spouses only, or would you allow a mom to borrow it in honor of her son coming home too? My son will be home in July. He's been gone for 3 years. 3 deployments, while stationed in Europe. I hope I still recognize him!

What a great idea! When Aaron was in Turkey and flying in Iraq (persian gulf) he got a flag and we still have it. It was on my bedroom wll for a long time. Here is another thought. My State Rep could mabey get a flag that has flown over the State capital and mabey we could send it out to folks who not only have someone coming home but any of us who are proud of what our loved ones do at home or abroad.

Glad to hear others think it is a good idea. As for a mother borrowing it in honor of her son, I think that would be great as well. As long as it is passed around and kinda kept within this forum. Works for me!

From reading the replies to this new thread, it seems Docsjoy is first in line to recieve the flag. Please contact me at ozzmosis@satx.rr.com and i'll get it out to you. If anyone has any questions feel free to e-mail me as well.

I know we all wish there was not a reason for a flag like this but considering the way things are, let's pass this flag around and let it run it's course. I think after a while this flag would have a lot of stories to tell, all happy.

oh dear lord!

if this wasn't thought of before i don't know how it wasn't. ive been trying to think of an idea that i special to my husbands homecoming (aug 17-21) some time in this frame. i would like to participate if it's not too much trouble. i know it would mean a lot to him and the one's he's lost. if it wouldn't upset you too much i would like to fly it during the memorial ceremony and medals ceremony and then send it on. i will have the unit sign a paper, each one of them, and will keep it with great honor in a display box if you allow me this one pleasure. i know it would boost the moral of the men as they come off that bus. Thanks again for the oppotunity and GREAT idea!
