Hi,
Are we allowed to send cases of drinks - energy drinks (i.e. Monster) to deployed soldiers? And if so do they travel through the mail well?

Thanks.
Jane

I believe you cannot send liquids, not sure though. Maybe someone else can help me with this.

I always sent DH powder drink mixes when he was over there.

Call 1-800-ASK-USPS to ask the post office. I know alcoholic beverages are not considered hazardous but are not supposed to be mailed over. Not sure on other drinks.

Not sure...but I'm thinking that the carbonation in a Monster drink would probably cause it to explode. Those packages are not at all handled with care. I sent a box to hubby one time and by the time it got there it was practically round!

I wouldnt do it. I would worry they would explode, it is not as if your stuff is being handled w/ kid gloves.

Heck, call the company and see if they would donate some to your husband's command!

Not saying that they would, but if they were so inclined they could handle the shipping details.

Excellent idea!

USPS's rules on what you can and cannot send do not mention beverages (other than no alcohol), but I wouldn't send anything carbonated - too many variations in turbulance, temperature changes, etc. as it gets over there.

Definitely. I heard of a lady calling Betty Crocker about getting a full box of those Microwave Desserts. When she said it was for then UPS'd her a whole lot of them for free. They did it in support of the military which was awesome.

Our post office has a sign up about how to pack your box's. It does include liquids and starts with wrapping in absorbant material in a bag and a couple more lines after that. So you can. Call your local post office and ask them. If you do decide to send it, I would only send the monster the first couple times so you dont take the risk of anything else getting ruined.

Good luck!

Check over by the kool aid and such they have a ton of powdered things to just add to water bottles. I saw some engergy deals when I was last getting DH some tang. Things like that will probally be your best bet.

When I sent off the my wife's care package today, I asked about the new flat-rate boxes coming out. The clerk told me it should be a big help since so many people ship Big Red (a super-sweet red soda very popular in San Antonio) to their loved ones.

Our local post office will not allow anything carbonated packaged to Iraq, so as I wasn't willing to lie on the customs forms, my DH had to go without his favorite soft drink as it's not available at his camp. I've been sending the drink mixes as a poor second choice.

I just made an order for him from netgrocer.com.
I'm crossing my fingers and praying that the order gets to him safely. I hope he'll be pleasantly surprized when 10 liters of his favorite soda arrives Smile

FYI

netgrocer.com worked. 10 liters of my hub's favorite soda made it safe and sound all the way to his hooch in the sandbox. I ordered on the 14th and it made it there on the 22nd.
I'll be using them again if he needs more.
Hope this helps others with cautious post offices who won't allow carbonated fluids through the mail.

i've sent propel bottles. they did just fine. i just made sure they were cushioned. powdered is good too, but sometimes my hubby just wants the already mixed real thing!

and if your post office is too cautious i have taken the rules in there from usps and showed them so they would mail it. usually the postmaster there(at least in my case) may not know, especially if its a small town and they haven't shipped anything over there.

Capri Suns with bubble wrap work great and they aren't bad to drink warm!! DH likes the powdered packages that you can add to bottles of water.

Beer Hi, I just wanted to reply to this also because I frequently send canned drinks to my airmen. I send him starb***s in the cans a lot and I also send him Monsters. They travel really well getting over there and always arrive intact. I would't send anything carbonated at all. I always make sure the box they are in are securely taped up and the cans are right-side up when shipped, even if the box may get thrown around. You can't send alcohol either as said previously by other postings.

He will appreciate all that you do.
