My DH has a cell phone he got in Afghanistan and is calling me on minutes he purchased out there. They are pretty pricey and he dosen't have a lot of time to go and get more. I want to get an international calling card to call him. Would anyone advise a particular phone card provider ? I called Sprint and they quoted me 77 cents per minute. At&t quoted $1.50 minute.
if he has a local afghani cell phone he is going to need to use their calling cards.
does he have no access whatsoever to an MWR facility that has the free internet? I haven't paid a single penny for the last fivem onths and I get to talk to mine for an average of an hour a day using yahoo Instant messanger Voice.
You can also buy them through AAFES for relatively cheaply. If I remember right 20 bucks bought us about 20 min, I think. But yea, if he has their cell phone, he has to use their minutes. We did a lot of talking on Yahoo messenger with webcam and stuff too, which was almost better communication than the phone (half the time I was os excited we were talking I coudln't think of a thing to say!)
i have an international calling card with a compang called telestial (google it)-it was costing me 34 cents a minute to dial an iraqi cell last fall when my friend was ill and i was calling her husband to update him-the calls were free for him since they were incoming from outside iraq. When i used the A t and T card to call hubby last deployment it cost about 1.20 a minute and used minutes on his phone so check carefully before you purchase one. Be aware that the cell network in Afghanistan may not be the best-and that only the more developed FOBS have internet-if hs is on a ETT or out in the mountains you may just be out of luck.
The first paragraph was questionable as to advertising. The second paragraph sealed it. If you want to advertise then use the classifieds forum. Contact me at spousemod.mturnb@gmail.com if you have questions.
