I am thinking of joining the Navy Reserves and pursuing a Military Police route. Can anyone respond to the mobilization/deployment of Navy Reservists, specifically MP's. I am have a great respect for the hundreds of thousands of troops that have served and are currently serving. My biggest concern of joining the Navy Reserves is being away from my family and future wife. What are the chances of being mobilized and deployed with the Navy Reserves. Any opinions or facts would be great!

My husband (then fiance) joined the Reserves. He thought he had a good while before he would deploy. However, he was activated and deployed within a 3 week time span. (As in, he was gone within 3 weeks from receiving the phone call and in Iraq quickly after that)
We married within that 3 week time period (because he was going to miss our wedding day) and he has been gone over 8 months now and we will spend our entire first year of marriage apart. I am not trying to sound harsh, but that is reality. It definitely happens. Reservists have, and will continue, to be deployed much more regularly than they had been in the past. I know a few reservists that have already deployed twice and are expecting a third deployment. It sounds unlikely, but it happened to them- and it may happen to you. My husband had been told that as a reservist he would be able to finish college before he was called to deploy. He was, however, deployed 7 months after getting home from Basic and AIT (which was 8 months). So, 8 months gone, 7 months home, 1 year gone. He is currently deployed with an MP Brigade. If you don't want to be mobilized and deployed, my advice is to not join- because the odds are high. If you don't want to go, wait until after the war to sign on, but I don't have a clue how long that may be. |

100%. EVERYBODY deploys at some point. especially MAs are beinmg sent IA as individuals and not part of their unit. There can be no freedom without sacrifice |

yes- I forgot to add that part. My husband was not sent with his unit. His unit was deployed when he got out of training so he thought he had awhile before deploying...(them getting home.. a few years until they go again as reservists)
nope. he was transferred and put into another unit and deployed with them. They are from Michigan. So, even if your unit isn't going.. you're always up to deploy... such as the reservists going at the end of the year- no matter where you are you can be sent as an individual and attached to any unit deploying from anywhere |

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. |
My husband is a Navy SeaBee and there are always reserve units deploying with the batallians here. You could find more specific info in the Navy reserve forums, I bet! (Not that these fine ladies don't know what they are talking about- just would find more Navy Reserve people in the Navy Reserve forum is all).
