Hi -

I'm editing my previous question a bit. I'm married to a Gulf War veteran who just joined the ARNG in 07. Shortly after he did he was told that his unit would deploy. He signed up for OCS and was told that he wouldn't have to go with his state unit unless he didn't make it out of OCS.
Well, he got relieved without prejudice and told that he was welcome to try again at a later date.
He called his state unit and one of the officers said he'd deploy with the his state unit so we got ready and went through all the roller coastering and - we get there and he's told that he's not on the deployment roster - that he might be an alternate (he's not listed as an alternate either btw)
I guess I don't want to get used to the fact that he's not going anywhere only to find out in a week that he is -
It's been a hell of a year.
It's only been two weeks since he was dropped from OCS and from what I was told in the beginning if he was dropped from the program he'd have to catch up with his unit.
I guess I'm just frustrated because I don't know what's going on and I guess this is a good place to vent a little.
Has anyone else dealt with anything similar?

Well i havent been thru this exact thing-but-i do know from long experience that it is not common for guard soldiers to be sent follow on-in other words-if his unit has already left mob station-or if they are getting close to leaving-for theater-it is unlikely he will be called on to go with them-HOWEVER if he has not deployed before you can probably expect that if the state is levied for another deployment-and that unit is short personel-that he would command directed to deploy with them. Lots of guard units have deployed two or even three times and states sometimes run short of people to fill slots.

I think I'm getting terms confused. They Mobilized - they have not deployed yet.
right now he's in a weird sort of limbo.

But I guess it's just what you have to expect.

and i assumed you would understand-thats what i was trying to say-if they have mobilized-but are not more than half way thru their training at the stateside mobilizaiton station-there is a chance-if the commander wants the whole unit to deploy together =that he would still get orders to go with them-if they are past the half way point in training it is possible but unlikely that he will get orders to go with this unit-BUT very likely that if another unit from your state is mobilized that he will be sent with them. I hope thats more clear.

Oh, I'm not saying it was a problem with what you said or you not being clear, more about me interchanging terms that aren't really interchangeable :-) I understood what you said, I'd just realized that I'd made it sound more like they'd already headed overseas - that's all.
BTW thanks for the response. I've been on a bit of a roller-coaster about this. I know, he is too. Don't worry, I know.

The reason for him not being on the deployment list or stand by is he is coded as a pending loss to the unit while attending OCS.

Since it's only been two weeks since he was dropped, there's probably a good chance he will go. Also, I'm thinking your confusing some terms. If there still at home station, they've probably not mob'd yet but are doing home station train up.

Oh, it wouldn't surprise me if I were getting things confused.

The unit has moved from their home base (if that's what the local NG unit armory is considered) and gone down to a large training facility down state for a month and then a month after that they will actually deploy.
The information I'm getting is from my husband and from reading the information he's gotten (he lets me read it, I'm not sneaking peeks or anything) he thought he had to mobilize with them (his checklist is called a MOB list so I'm guessing that's right) because when he called his first sgt told him that he'd have to.
When he got there and was ready to leave with them his readiness officer told him he wasn't on the roster. So, I'm thinking what you guys have said is right. What's bad is that we got the kids all worked up and it seems like a bad thing to do.
I know I'm rambling. Sorry.
