Depends who the email came from. Probably a courtesy heads-up with official orders in the mail. Yes, 1 year assignments are unaccompanied, 2 years accompanied.

Would there be a way that he can ask to do a 2 year tour and they would put him at Osan?

just FYI Korea is not a deployment-it is permanant change of station orders-the rules are different-family members can NEVER accompany on deployment-how ever a two year accompanied PCS is possible.

Ok i am sorry his pcs is Kunsan Korea and it is an unaccompanied tour but I was wondering if there was anyway that he can volunteer for longer and get it switched to accompanied somehow.

He needs to request command sponsorship. Don't really know how the AF side does it, though, I'm more familiar with the Army side of the house.

It is possible to request command sponsorship and stay longer than one year. Whether or not it will be granted is another thing.

All he can do is talk to his command to start the process, but be prepared for a no.

It's not just a matter of you having a place to live, but also the base resources are taken into consideration. The base clinic can only handle so many people, etc.
